Thank you very much. Retired and trying to occupy time with things I always thought of doing but never had the time. Saw a planer on sale and before buying, thought I would educate myself on the technics. You gave me a good idea on how to handle one. The do's and don'ts. Your video was excellent in that you explained and followed up with a demonstration of what you meant. Keep up the good work.

What a great demo and teacher! Now I know how to use a planer. I have several drawers and doors I need to plane down. You explained it so well. Thanks for no music, such joy! Glad to see that Ryobi makes one. I'm tired of Dewalt prices for tools made in China. Tip - for reclaimed pallet wood - tap the wood out using a piece of wood and hammer. Then use an Airlocker Reverse Nail Gun with compressor to knock out all the nails fast from any piece of wood. Such a time saver!

Thanks for the video. I just bought the planner you demonstrated as I have some door edges I need to clean up a bit and decided that after using a block plane for the last 30 years I deserve an electric planner. When I opened the box I saw the guide and got a little confused about how it worked. I'm glad you covered this in the video or else I would have had to break a long standing tradition of not reading the manual.

Good video. But I have some suggested tweaks. From my experience, if I want to take off material in the center area of a board, I mark the start and end points on the board and set the planer depth knob to 0 when I start a pass and as I approach the start mark I start turning the depth adjustment a bit to begin taking out material. When I approach the end mark I start turning the depth knob towards 0 so by time I reach the end mark I am at 0. It takes a few passes and maybe a little practice on some scrap lumber but I find this easier and less chance of taking off too much material at the starting area by dropping the planer down mid-stream of the area that needs material removal. I also don't find myself needing to raise the planer up at the end of a run as suggested if I put pressure at the back end of the planer as you suggested but keep the pressure on as I come to the end of the run. I find if you don't time the going upwards just right, you might come up too early and then miss taking off material at the end.

Thank you for this video. Your explanation of the hand planner was on point and direct. I appreciate it and learned so much. Ryobi’s manual for this tool leaves a lot to be desired. I would have had to learn by trial and error exactly what Ryobi means by pushing the tool down the wood in a “slow” manner, for example. It was good to see the tool in action. Anyway, loved the video and subscribed to your channel. Best regards.

Thanks for the video, but what’s the best approach for planing a wider face service, more than the width of the planer blade where you want an even planed surface all across the face? You’re video shows the same info most other similar KZbin videos show on this subject. Would like to see a larger surface bring planed and demonstrated.

Great video thank you. Question... just purchased one of these planers to trim down a few doors. I noticed that after a few passes the planer was cutting one edge of the door more than the other, leaving an angle on the door edge. Is this a result of the blade not being square with the bottom plate? Thanks.

Great video ! Thanks for the Information. My question is regarding tha calibration of the blade. You mentioned that blade should not being in contact with the wood surface when leveled at 0. However I watch another video where the Instructor said that blade should be in contact for around and 1/8 of inch. What would be your recommended measurement?

Wow! What a great video. I just finished a set of custom double doors and despite doing everything to make sure they are square, they’re off a bit. I tried to sand down the edges, but that is too slow. So - I’m off to Home Depot tomorrow. Plus I have some 2x4s I want to clean up for projects and while I can clean the long sides of them on my table saw, it is pretty dangerous to have the blade up that high. What is the widest board you can plane with a tool like this? Is there no limit?

I've never used one but I've always wanted one. Good tips & anyone can practice on their scrap pieces of wood until they get the hang of it or buy couple cheap 2x4 studs to practice on. Ryobi is pretty good from what I hear. There's nothing wrong going with some of your tools cheaper than others. Especially if you don't necessarily use that tool all the time. Often it's best to get the cheaper brands in that case. But ya know it's also good to look up reviews on KZbin for tools rather than reading reviews on website. Now I'm definitely interested in this planer! I have no idea about Ryobi's line of battery operated tools though. Very interested in some of them as well. Love the color of Ryobi tools!
