Hi Diane! Thanks so much for stopping by. We'd be happy to help a little! You will be able to edit the relationship of two parents who never been married or dated by clicking "Edit" followed by "Edit relationships" in one of the parents tree profiles. There will be a few options available, including Single, Other, or Unknown. We'll link some information below that we hope will help a little. Thank you! My family tree seems to have split into a few smaller trees. I have one main tree but somehow when I added an ancestor it started another tree in that name and this has happened about 3 times. I would like to know how to see them all on the same page.

It can be very useful to be able to swap backwards and forwards in your tree by opening different tabs on your browser. e.g. to check a hint or hints attached to a person, first click on the person to select them, then, with your right mouse button, click on the Hint, this will open, what is known as a 'contextual menu', with various links showing, move your mouse onto the 'contextual menu' and select the first link with the left hand mouse button, 'Open Link in New Tab'. You will see that, at the top of your browser, you still have your original page open but have also opened the link attached to the hints, you can then swap back and forth from your tree to the hint attached to the person, this can be done a number of times and can be very useful.

I did some experimenting to see what information was available online regarding family members. I ended up being upset because the information in some cases was false. They have my grandparents as having one child that died.It bothers me because I know that one day young people will be trying to find information and see that and be misled.

Hi Christopher and thank you for getting in touch. We are very sorry for any distress you felt seeing this inaccurate information and wanted to explain. It sounds as though you were looking at a family tree. Please be advised that for user-submitted content such as that on member trees, we're only a distributor. We do not police or monitor user-provided content, with the exception to privacy which pertains to a living person. We would suggest that you message the tree owner and ask that they edit and fix the information so that is shows accurately, especially for future generations seeking out this information. We wish you the best of luck!

@@AncestryUS Thanks for your reply, but I think you’ve misunderstood my question. If Jon was in my tree as my GGGrandfather and I find him in your tree, you had to place Jon in your tree somewhere, perhaps he’s your GGGUncle or something. Why when I get the hint that Jon is in your tree, when I search for him in your tree, it shows just his lineage and not where he has been placed in that tree by YOU?
@AncestryUS
@AncestryUS 2 жыл бұрын
Do excuse our misunderstanding, and thanks very much for clearing this up! It sounds like you're referring to our relationship prediction tool, which we'll link more information about here for reference: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Seeing-How-People-in-Your-Ancestry-Tree-are-Related-to-You. This feature is only visible to a tree owner, and it is dependent on you yourself, or another tree profile, being entered within the "Who you are in this tree" section within the Tree Settings. Any profile from the family tree can be entered, and some might leave this blank as well, so if this was viewable by other people other than the tree owner, it's possible the relationships might not be listed in relation to the tree owner, or at all. We do hope this information helps further!

I figured most of this on my own. My comment is should you have started with the bottom of the duplicate line like with Briana to merge her info and gallery. Merging from where you started makes me wonder what happened to the two Brianas? Also you do not mention whether you can merge only within the tree or for all trees you own.

Please be advised that we do not remove information from our members trees and the only people who can delete a family tree are the owner of the tree or anyone they might have made an editor of that tree. If you did not delete the tree yourself and neither did any potential editors of the tree, then we can assure you that the tree has not gone anywhere, it is just a case of finding it. Is it possible that you might have a duplicate account on Ancestry and may have built the tree on that account? Thanks for reaching out to Ancestry, Lee. We regret any confusion and we're happy to provide some insights. Via Ancestry.com we offer various services aimed to assist anyone who wishes to conduct his/her own family research. A subscription would give you access to search for information across historical records and databases, like census records, parish records or emigration databases. You can read more about the subscription service here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/What-to-do-with-an-Ancestry-Membership. We offer subscriptions on different levels, depending on needs, starting from $24.99 for one month. You can find an overview of the prices and plans we offer here: www.ancestry.com/cs/offers/subscribe. Another service we offer is our DNA test, which involves a one time cost. This would give you an overview of your estimates ethnicity (places in the world where your ancestors may have lived) and a list of DNA matches (now living relatives in the AncestryDNA database that match with you). You can read more about AncestryDNA and see some examples of the type of results to expect here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/What-to-Expect-from-AncestryDNA Depending on what you know about your dad's grandparents so far and where and when they lived, you may opt to take part in one or the other of the above services, or both. A DNA test is a good starting point if you're looking for unknown biological family and have little or no information to begin with. If you have some details to search with, for instance your dad's information or his parent's names and details, try searching for these and work your way backwards. A good first step is to create a family tree with any information you know already, so that you can add to the tree as you go. If you have any questions or need advice along the way you're very welcome to reach out. You can also find many support guides on our website, with tips on how to get started and how to research particular areas of interest, for instance. We've attached a link for you here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Free-Research-Guides We hope this information is helpful and wish you much success with your family research!

I have just registered & activated my kit but when doing this it asked me if I wanted to do my family tree. I clicked on yes & it took me too a tree that already had one person on it, my father who I’ve never known or known this? I’m really confused how this is possible.

Hi, Ashley. Thanks for getting in touch. We can understand that you'd have some confusion. Is this a new account, or is it one that you've had for a while? When we suggest that you start a family tree, it's empty and we ask you to start with yourself. Was the name in the tree a familiar name? We'd suggest deleting the tree and starting over from scratch. We'll send you instructions to delete the tree. If you feel that someone else may have had access to your account, we suggest changing your password. We'll send you instructions to do that also. Please let us know if you have other questions. support.ancestry.com/s/article/Deleting-a-Family-Tree?language=en_US support.ancestry.com/s/article/Changing-Your-Password?language=en_US

I wonder how I add two names to one person? What I mean. My mom was born with a name then taken from her parents by the State. She was in a home them adopted. Her Nama was completely changes. I like it to show her current name but in her timeline show where it changed from her name at birth.

You did not cover my issue in adding ancestors and children. I can create more than one family tree so should I create a tree for my paternal side and a second tree for my maternal side getting 2 different Family named trees. I tried this option but soon found out that my father who appears in both trees does share info and I don't know how to Tools/Merge between the 2 family trees. What is the suggested approach?

Hi there, thanks so much for stopping by! For anyone looking to find biological family members we always suggest starting with an AncestryDNA test. We have linked some more information on this test for you here should you wish to take a look: support.ancestry.com/s/article/What-to-Expect-from-AncestryDNA?language=en_US Once you have your results we would suggest figuring out how you're related to your closest DNA matches in so far as that is possible. We will include a guide with some tips to help with this: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Uncovering-DNA-Match-Relationships And this guide has our best overall tips for anyone searching for biological family: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Finding-Biological-Family Hopefully you'll be able to make some progress from there. Good luck!

How do you add an adopted family member who's family you know?
@AncestryUS
@AncestryUS 7 ай бұрын
Thanks very much for watching, Paul! You can add adopted family the same as you'd add other family members, and following on from this, you can edit the relationships to specify that the family member is adopted. You can learn more about this here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Listing-Adopted-Family-in-a-Tree?language=en_US We hope this helps!

It's an Irish accent - possibly N Ireland-ish :) Can I ask you why you did choose such a silly name? Far better to select one that is representative so we can learn from it.
