After the polar vortex that hit us in Texas last year I bought three of these but I got the smaller version. Dietz is definitely the way to go. Very good quality and the glass domes are sturdy. I wish mine had the frosted glass though. Excellent video, you taught me a lot!

I live in an area where it is possible to buy Kerosene certain gas stations and pump it pretty much the same way. It costs more than diesel, but it is actually Kerosene. I don't feel comfortable with using diesel as they aren't really designed for it and the additives put out highly toxic fumes. I saw about $5.499 a gallon for Kerosene the other day. For those reading in the future to give a little prospective Regular Gas was $4.359 a gallon and Diesel was $4.399 a gallon at the same station.

I stayed in a little cabin on my farm for 2 years using deitz #80 lanterns for lite. There great and no noise. I'm jealous as the Jupiter wasn't available at that time . Can't mess with success......

A nice saftey feature of these lanterns is that if you're using kerosene if the lantern is knocked over it will self extinguish.

Hey brother if you were to spend a little bit more money to have a terracotta pot installed over them. You could make really great radiating heaters out of what you have. Not to mention it will store the heat for much longer. Of time

Bought a Dietz lamp three years ago. It was inside at all times. Then the bottom rusted out. Why don't they charge more money and use a better metal instead of cheap tin.

The older ones that were made in USA are considerably better quality, more expensive and harder to find in good working order.

Stop using kerosene. Use designated lamp oil made from parrafin. Less soot and odor, and is rated for indoor use. People using kerosene may be using it in other ways, so it makes sense for them. When you light it, roll the wick all the way up until it smokes black, then back off til it burns clean. Parrafin oill has never sooted the globes on mine, but kerosene will, even if you adjust the flame height properly. Kerosene and diesel would be my last choices in lamp fuel. The fuel efficiency of these lamps si off the charts, so I buy parrafin oil. It's worth it. I use a Dietz #10 in the back of my truck canopy when I camp. There is always going tobe a lttle fuel smell, but no black soot. Crack those windows for air.
