Thank you SO MUCH for this!! I wrote a children's book years ago and thankfully with apps like Canva and with Amazon's KDP, I can publish it myself! BTW, I published my book "Politiquette: The People's Guide to Political Discourse" on KDP and I couldn't be happier with the results! Thanks again for this tutorial and for your inspiring words of encouragement!

If you don't mind me asking how was it? I want to do this but unsure how to start also is it doing well? X
@NadiaInNewYork3 жыл бұрын
@@hennayas9031 "Politiquette" is heavy on stats so it took me almost a year to write it because of the research involved. I published it in 2015 and republished it in 2020 with a different cover and an updated foreword explaining why I was republishing and why I hadn't changed the content; namely, because I wanted my readers to see that everything I had predicted had come to fruition, not because I'm an 'oracle' but because the writing was on the wall. Also, to reiterate WHY I wrote it and why it's important for Americans to reconsider how we debate politics and choose our leaders. Yes, it's doing well thank God. There are SO many ways to promote a book today - IG, Twitter, Tik Tok, etc. If you want to write, I say GO FOR IT. Just keep in mind that it will take commitment and focus on your part. I basically had no social life when I was writing, but it was all worth it! I hope I answered your question but if not feel free to contact me, I'm happy to help if I can! =)

@NadiaInNewYork3 жыл бұрын
@@hennayas9031 Steps: 1. Write the copy. If you're writing for kids remember to keep their developmental threshold in mind. 2. Edit. Then edit. Then edit again. 3. Get feedback on your copy. Either hire a pro editor or ask friends to read it and give you feedback. 4. You guessed it - EDIT AGAIN, lol 5. Once you're happy with your copy, go to Fiverr and research 'Children's Books Illustrators.' 6. Reach out to a few of them to figure out if they're a good fit. Remember to tell them how many different characters there are and how many different scenes are in your story. 7. ASK THEM HOW MANY REVISIONS YOU'RE ALLOWED TO MAKE. This is imperative. No one gets it right on the first try and a professional understands this. It's a work in progress. Make sure you have enough leeway to develop something good. 8.Hire the best fit. Once you're happy with the product then 9. Go to Canva and follow the above video to set up your book. 10. Go to Amazon KDP, sign up, and follow the prompts. On KDP you can make both a hardcopy and an eBook of your work. HOPE THIS HELPS!!

You don't need a border to print with kdp. The images can go to the very edge. All you need is to make the pages larger. You need to add 0.125 inch margin around the page size you want. So if you want your book to be 8 in wide x 10 in high, the template needs to be 8.125 x 10.25. One side of the page doesn't need a margin as it will be in the gutter (middle of the book). So if your book size is different than 8x10, which I use, add 0.25 to the height and 0.125 to the width. So create a template and then start filling it in.

@@dukkiboi As long as you keep your design INSIDE of the Safe Trim Lines...You'll be ok and your book design will pass the check. If anything is outside of the Cut/Trim Lines then KDP will reject it and ask that you correct the error. This is why creating a Book Template in canva for each style/type of book you want to create in the future is a wise and necessary choice. Hope this helps everyone.

As @every new day is a blessing said, yes you need to add the "bleed allowance" to your images but you also need to select "with bleed" when you're uploading your file to KDP. This will allow your images to bleed over the trim line. Then you can save yourself quite a bit of work. Great video btw. Right to the point. Thank you!

Your video is very helpful. Most of the time, I see people using Photoshop or Indesign to format their book. I didn't"t know about Canva to do so. I was wondering about the quality. Hi In a lot of videos I have watched, there is always a lot of talk about flattening the images (for paperbacks), especially when images are layered on top of one another. I have also created my e-book using Canva but can you please tell me if I can just follow your steps to convert my e-book into paperback or do I need to get someone to flatten my images first. Thanks for your inspirational video.

I'm a novice, about to use this woman's methodology right now, and I also have tons of questions, lol, but what I think you're asking, i think this is the answer (I'm very familiar w/ photoshop, and I'm basing my answer off of what I know in Ps when you Save your project that has 3, 4, 8, 12+ layers, and save it as a PNG or JPEG, the Saved picture becomes 1 layer. I've never heard the word "flatten" but I think that's what you're talking about) In her first step, once all your pages are the way you want them, she downloads all her pages and Saves it as a PNG --> gets saved as a .zip file. I believe in this process, all layers will become one. Hope that helps.

@NadiaInNewYork3 жыл бұрын
Double sided is what you choose on KDP, not on Canva. Best of luck!
@The_Truthbearer3 жыл бұрын
So first I would Google the size of an average activity book. Write down the dimension. Once on Canva, select a New Document, Custom Dimension. Enter in whatever Google said, be sure to select "in" for inches, and it's not on "px" (pixel). And you don't worry about front and back or page numbers. KDP will do all of that.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "border pages". You can't just turn on the margins or anything, she says to use the grid. =) not sure if that helps, but hope so!

@The_Truthbearer3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's how you're bringing the image onto the square. I think the easiest is to just click the file, like you would in "Uploads". (I haven't tried that yet). If that doesn't work, drag the image into the center of the grid instead of letting it catch as you drag it on.
