This tutorial will show you how to use the CC Ball Action in Adobe After Effects CC 2024 to create patterns of circles or ‘balls’ or to create 3D Displacement Effects and much more.
Note:
To follow along with the tutorial, you must be using AE Version 24.2 or later.

How To Add CC Ball Action:
1. Create New Composition (Cmd/Ctrl + N)
2. Add Solid, Text or Graphics Layer
3. PreCompose Text or Graphic Layer
4. Go To ‘Effects & Presets’ Panel
5. Search for Ball
6. Drag ‘CC Ball Action’ on to PreComp Layer
7. Go to Effects Control Panel To Customize
How To Animate CC Ball Action:
1. Go to ‘Effect Controls’ Panel
2. Drag CTI To the beginning of the Timeline
3. Press Option or Alt and click on stopwatch next to ‘Scatter’
4. Press Option or Alt and click on stopwatch next to ‘Displace’
5. Move CTI forward in time and change values for Scatter & Replace
6. Repeat down the Timeline until animation is complete
7. Select all Keyframes and tap F9 to Easy Ease
8. Tap Spacebar to Preview
How To Edit or Replace Text & Graphics:
1. Double-click on PreComp to open
2. Add or Swap out text, graphics, etc
3. Add other effects as needed
4. Close PreComp to return to Main Comp

Great tutorial! Seems like this is really powerful and a very cool effect! I read something once about how to use this effect in conjunction with the Wave effect set to triangles to create a _knitted sweater_ look. Basically with all the sort of wool patterns.

Thanks! Yes, like so many things in After Effects, there are endless use cases for CC Ball Action (which is why AE is so fun!). Jake Bartlett has an entire Skillshare class on Creating a Knit Sweater and he uses the CC Ball Action effect to create the pattern: skl.sh/3TRaHWD 👍
