Another tip, once you press the center stand down, rock it gently side to side to feel that both feet of the center stand are on the ground, then press and lift.

Yep - I've got a center stand on my 79 Kawi KZ650SR... and that bike is supposed to be stored on it to prevent oil from pooling on one side of the crankcase, and if you have to use the kick starter to start it, then being on the center stand makes it easier. Pull back and up on the handlebar while grabbing the handhold [on my bike there's a frame rail to grab], and push down with your right foot on the center stand, easy :D BTW, that thing is purty :D

Had to add this. Once had Beemer flying brick K 100. Had to center stand it at all times as the cylinder head was to the left side. If it was on the side stand for even a few minutes oil would be drawn past the rings in whatever cylinder was on the intake stroke and it was a skeeter smoker when you started it. K bike Beemers were infamous for that.

Another little tip, when centerstand feet touches the pavement just lean the bike to the right side a little and you will feel the other leg make contact with the ground. Then push with the leg and lift with the right hand and it should raise right up. I am an old man and I can get the 1000 lb Goldwing on the center stand no problem. Keep practicing but be careful with one leg on the ground it will be easier to lose the balance and drop it. Been there and done that one. Be safe out there.

When I got my Goldwing it took me a bit to figure out how to put it on the center stand too as it was my first as well. Keeping the front wheel straight makes it easier, as does getting both feet on the c-stand planted flat before lifting.

When you get good you'll also slowly roll the bike backwards and use that momentum (while pushing with your foot and lifting) to blast the bike onto the center stand. Easy peasy.

Some bikes are easier than others but if you want to cheat at home, try this.... Let's say, when the bike is on the center stand, the rear tire gets 1 1/4 inches off the ground. You would get a narrow piece of wood that is 1 inch thick and roll the rear tire on it making sure it won't interfere with the feet on the side stand. Once it's on the wood, push down on the stand, it will only have to now raise the bike a quarter inch. Real easy. Then slide the wood out. If the wood is 3/4 inch thick, still easy but not as easy as when it's only slightly less than the height of the tire off the ground. You can find the right thickness once the tire is off the ground by sliding pieces of wood until you find a good thickness.

Hi Collen, I have a Goldwing which also has a center stand and I had the same issue you had. what I learned is to make sure that both legs of the center stand are touching the ground and then put your weight and push down on the center stand arm while lifting with your hand on the rear seat handle. It made a big difference and is a lot easier now.

There's a recall on the grab bar mounting, some folks have been grabbing that instead of using the passenger peg mounting. I guess the grab bar mounting bolts aren't up to the task. The center stand works the same way my R1150GS does. I had a problem with the Jiffy stand, didn't know it has a notch in the mounting where it locks, it doesn't work like all the other bikes I've had over the years.
@Broncoride

Yes sir. Just had recall done last week. I started using the pannier mounts when I use the center stand now. That grab bar is flimsy.

So funny that the little things we don't think about, can be something others have no experience with. I have a center stand on each bike, the VStrom is no issue, but surprisingly, neither is the 950 lb Goldwing. I do make sure both legs of the stand are on the ground before I step down, and it just pops up. Good share!!

With my RT I face more forward and make sure both feet of the center stand are making contact with the pavement and I stand up on the lever while holding the handle bar with my left hand and pulling up with my right on the handle. I keep the kickstand down though as a safety thing. I had two Kawasaki's with center stands too. They are convenient when doing services on the bike and also checking oil level.

Okay, initially I though this was silly, then I watched and still think it is silly. I don't think you have owned very many bikes with centre stands. I hav a Pan Am, I had no trouble getting it on the centre stand, then I have been riding 50 years and had 3 bikes with centre stands, and 3 without, I don't think I've had a lot of bikes, but it is not that hard, may don't listen to salesmen. Still gave you a thumbs up for posting it. Funny story, I haven't dropped my Pan Am on the dirt yet, but I have dropped it in my driveway, turning it around so I could lube the chain.

If you look at 2:50, you're essentially trying to lift the bike by the corner of one center stand leg. The fact that you still managed to do that is impressive, but having the whole center stand contact the ground (and front wheel straight as another commenter said) will definitely make this a breeze in comparison. Ask me how I know :D
@Broncoride

Yes make sure both feet on surface and everything will be more sturdy. I actually find the stand on the panam extremely easy compared to other bikes; my previous vstrom 1000 was a tough bike to get on. Ohh the hand rail is a bad design, as that's the only safe place to hold it, hopefully the top box mount from Hepco will sort this out.
@Broncoride
@Broncoride 3 жыл бұрын
Hand rail is definitely a bad design. I use my hard bag frame and it works fine. Your mount will help.

The better way to get the bike off the stand is to mount the bike, standing upright on the pegs and within 1, maybe two forward movement the bike will roll off to keep the front brake applied. The bike Will literally stand vertical with you on easily for what seems amply time for you to sit and put you feet down. As for lifting, just continue so push the stand down with your right foot and the bike will lift and mount itself. Very little need to lift anything with you hands.

It sounds stupid but it makes a lot of difference if you have the right boots, like adventure boots, since the rigid boot makes it easier to push down on the small surface of the center stand! Also, on my bmw r1200gs, I installed a cut down strap to a low point of my bike that helps to pull and lift the bike and it makes the maneuver 100% easier! The strap weights nothing ! If you don't have a good point to pull the bike up and back it is 100 times more dificult! Also, you can left the sidestand down ans in case the bike comes down you can rest it on the sidestand.

Interesting I traded my R1200GS in for my PAS and the PAS definitely seems to be harder to get onto its centre stand. I think because the GS had a bigger footprint to press down on. Got to ask why its called a Jiffy stand when we here in the UK call it a side stand. Is it because your only be a jiffy ( short time ) when you put it on this stand.
@Dude_Virus
@Dude_Virus 3 жыл бұрын
It's all good but I would say that let the jiffy stand be down until you get the bike up on the center stand. Just in case if any balance issues happen then bike wont fall.
