I find a solid bung works so much better than a hand at keeping liquid off the table and floor. Thanks for a very informative and useful video.

Is that Drink Beer - Hail Satan on tap? Superb Black IPA. Was it the kit from Brewday?

It's not, but that's a great name for a black IPA. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Can you spray the inside of a plastic brew bin with chemsan or does it have to be submerged ? The reason I’m asking is we are doing all we can to reduce water usage and if I can get the same results by giving my brew bucket a good spraying it would really reduce the amount of water we use.

You can do, but I think this might end up using more water. Chemsan can be reused, so making up 5 litres or so will keep for a while, and it can be used to rinse out clean buckets then stored for another use. If the pH goes above 3 then add a bit more Chemsan to lower the pH again. When spraying a bucket to sanitise it, it will need a lot of spraying and it will be harder to store and reuse.

Ive just spent the last week on facebook trying to find out the difference between sterilising & sanitising lol. This & your other tutorials are fantastic im really impressed, youre doing a great job. I have chemsan but not chemclean. I do have a few questions now though if you dont mind?.... 1. How many times can you re-use chemsan?. 2. My kettle is 35L, so if i need 50g per 5L, that'll be 350g of chemclean is that correct? Seems like a lot thats all. 2. Ive been told i dont need to clean my kettle as the boiling water will sterilise it, but to clean it after the boil, I just need to sanitise everything that will come into contact with the wort which i think is what your video has shown, is that correct?.

Thanks very much! To put it simply, sanitising kills most bugs whereas sterilising kills all bugs. Chemsan is a sanitiser as it's selective in what it kills. It's less harmful to saccharomyces and some other yeasts. Chemsan can be reused as long as the pH is below 3.5. There isn't really a number on this as some batches I've kept for months and others I've had to throw out after a couple of weeks, although it's usually because the solution got bits of dirt in it and it's best not to sanitise with "dirty" sanitiser. The dilution rate in the video for Chemclean is for manual scrubbing. If you have the time, use half the dilution rate and leave to soak for 20-30 mins. Even if bits of dirt don't come off they should scrub off quite easily. Also, do you need to fill your kettle to the brim? I usually fill my kettle half way and with a sponge scrub the sides. You don't need to sanitise your kettle as the boil will sterilise it, that's correct. Everything the wort touches after the boil - inside of the kettle tap, hosing, fermenter etc. - does need to be sanitised, yes that's correct. Hope this has helped!
