Ok, ugly orphan pixels can be good. For dirt, it works quite well, especially for more realistic dirt. Also dithering will always be the strong one XD
@CotufaPixel13 күн бұрын
I'll talk about dithering later, and as I said later on the video, there's people who know how to use them correctly (including you ofc)

really it just depends on the style. I feel like as long as you're consistent with them they can look good. also, great explanation on what both terms meant

Personally, I've always used anti-aliasing as a way to draw half pixels. If you're, say, drawing a curved line that goes from 2 pixels long to 1 pixels long, you may want to use only 1.5 pixels inbetween to smoothen it out. In this case, these half pixels can be used to cut a portion of the 2 pixel line down to 1.5 pixels long. One common Anti-aliasing mistake, however, is using it everywhere. Suddenly everything is slathered in half-pixels, which makes the art feel more flat. Any smoothness shouldn't be taking away from the shapes you're trying to convey in your art. To rectify this I only use half pixels when I really need to sell the shape of something. In addition, I won't use anti-aliasing on areas that have light on them no matter what as to avoid making the lighting feel less real. And don't forget, Google is an amazing resource. Look it up!
