Good question. At the momenet the tools can present all the information you need to make that decision for yourself - you'll still need to think critically about all the papers you are reading.

I've used paid v of perplexity quite extensively, and though it is very good for doing general research, when it comes to specifically researching academic papers it's not that great

Perplexity's academic focused search mostly searched semantic scholar. Summaries are quite similar but consensus seems to be pretty targeted use. I like both
