Cool deal! So I guess my only question wld be which side goes on your vehicles wiring harness & which side goes on the other? Like female & male. I'm assuming the female goes to your vehicles & then the male on the other? Which in my case is an oxygen sensor. It tk me a few tries w/butt connectors b4 I fnd out about these Deutsch connectors. I do have open barrel bcuz that's what they come w/when u order them or I guess unless ur more specific like this guy was & get the closed barrel or whatever they're called. I've heard weatherproof or something like that they're also called. I cld be off on the name, but weather something. Anyways tho idk much about all this stuff. I'm just now starting to learn bcuz I was forced to w/my vehicle breaking dwn & haveing to fix it myself. I hope this works & it looks more promising than those butt connectors & heat shrink sleeves & all that crap! I def recommend also getting a crimping tool. They say u can use needle nose pliers on the open barrels. I didn't try that, but I almost did until I decided to go ahead & buy a $15 crimping tool w/cutting & wire stripping off eBay, but yes I def recommend the right crimp tool for any of these barrels lol. U want to get the job done right! Great video tho! I really enjoyed it! The clicking parts lol. Yeap I'm def going to be listening for that haha! Thanks again tho! Great video!

Great video! I want to add some led running board lights on my f250. Is there a plug configuration I could use to tap into an existing hot wire and ground? My wire harness is under my rear sill plate on the interior of my truck. I don't want to use one of those cheap wire taps that always seem to fail after a period of time.
@jugdhiss2 жыл бұрын
Definitely the way to go for any exterior wire connection.👍 The upgradability and flexibility is priceless. THAT'S why the regular parts stores don't carry these! I'm using two four pin sets for a bumper reflector insert that has LED backup lights.

So, I took the bumper off of my 2013 Mustang GT and that ripped the backup camera wire. That wire had no plugs and runs from the rear bumper to all the way in cockpit. I'm thinking to reconnect the ripped wirr through a harness like this, so next time when I take off my bumper it won't be a problem.

Great job. Nice to find another 'super-fan' of these Deutsch connectors. I discovered them while working with our Aggregate plant electricians working on Caterpillar front end loaders. I've used them on multiple motorcycle projects. I have the same four way crimper. It works great. Thanks for sharing your experience.

5:35 Actually, you should not but the closed barrel connector up against the insulation. There should be a bit of wire showing....say .025-.050" The way you did it could add stress
@BlisterBang Жыл бұрын
Yup, and he'd also fail QA inspection if they can't see the wire through the inspection hole. It's the only way to prove that the conductor is all the way to the crimp point of the pin.

The Deutsch connectors that you show (from Amazon) are NOT the REAL Deutsch brand connectors. Anyone know the quality diff between the two?
@joem6859 Жыл бұрын
Good video, just a couple of points... 1. i'm with you on the barrel contacts and crimper, very easy to use, way easier than open barrel terminals. 2. you're not showing a true Deutsch connector on Amazon, those are knockoffs. I've used too, didn't realize they're knockoffs, but not using again, don't trust the integrity of the raw materials or their mfg controls. 3. The true Deutsch connectors are a little pricey, like an 8 pin connector kit is about $22, and I need about 10 of em.

More info on your connecting tool? Also, crimping smaller than 20 ga wire is a PIA. I've learned to tin the wire with solder to build it up a bit before crimping.
@alvarohernandez27649 ай бұрын
I noticed the "garbage" pins crimp both the wire and the sleeve in place, while the easy pin only crimps the wire, which could potentially slide the tip away from the sleeve with pushing and pulling. Makes me wonder if it's trading ease of use for security, or is it a non issue..

Open barrel is better because when you're putting tension on the cable it applies tension to the plastic sleeve and not just the metal wires - which can damage the connection. Most oem cars plugs use open barrel obviously

Working with a tractor supply Travelers light bar. Any chance you can make me a 15 foot 2 pin 14 gauge. I think the standard is 16 but with an extension I thought 14 would be better. Man, if you're going to spend that much on high quality contacts it's worth it not to cheap out on the crimper, buy them on ebay if you're trying to save some money. I work avionics for a living and the difference might seem small but in the years that follow, you will see the difference. LPC (loose piece contact) solid (machined, not stamped from a flat piece of material) contacts are definitely the best option for reliability. Otherwise great video.
