This is excellent, especially the unedited editing and seeing your thought process when choosing the right way to phrase the sentence,

Loved the editing sequence. Especially how much you changed your mind. Just seeing your process and it all come together made me feel better about my own meandering style.

Thanks, this was useful, and it was interesting to watch you edit that example text. I think it definitely improves dialogue scenes if you vary between dialogue tags, action beats and also having distinctive character voices if you can. Sometimes I do notice myself relying on the same few simple action beats like 'he nodded' or 'she frowned' to show who's speaking next if I'm trying to avoid using a dialogue tag, but I try to go back and rewrite these to find a more interesting action the character could be doing. I am also a little bit curious to know how your tale of the dead Christmas elf is going to end...😀

This was an excellent tutorial. I shared this video with some of my writer friends after they asked me to critique their WIP and needed to explain dialog tags and how to use them. I love how you "tweaked" the AI-generated story at the end. I've been wanting to take out that damn elf on the shelf for years.

I honestly like different dialog tags, and having people constantly tell us to cut them out is becoming almost a pet peeve, yet I know we have to do what the editors and publishers want, so I try to follow the rules. But I like things like "Tim grouched" and "Sarah laughed" and I feel like there can be a way to use them, as long as we don't make them clunky and just use way too many. It has to be balanced properly. But that's just my opinion and I mostly try to follow the rules in my book because I know that's what editors want and stuff these days.

Every time I write smth like "she said firmly", Stephen King yells at me in Latin in my head. Now I will also have you laughing. :D P.S. English is my third language, so the struggle is real.
