Thank you for this, It drives me crazy that devs put mechanics like this into games with zero explanation, Ive been trying to understand how it worked for the past 10min after coming across my first one and now I see I couldnt make it work because I dont have enough digipicks. But not knowing what the goal even was, that was quite frustrating.

Is tricky and challenging sometimes , i just wish wouldnt use digipicks every time you undo because i can't remenber how many times i lost digipicks that way lol i end up just ignoring those things till i get a lot digipicks or better skills

You probably know this by now, but if you level up the Security perk, rings will highlight if a particular key can fit on it. This is really handy to see which keys might be for _only_ one ring.

TIL: Undo costs me extra digipicks. I thought the number was the amount of chances I had to undo... Well, I guess I was sorta right, but didn't understand the cost. Helpful!

Yea after doing so many of them I just had to go mod em out. They are quite time consuming especially in some areas where you gotta unlock a few back to back

Facts, its simply just bad game design to lock quest items behind doors the require randomly spawned keys.

Yeah I get that. They can take an obnoxiously long time. I have to admit I enjoy them though and I usually hate puzzles. I also have like 50 digipicks at all times so that helps 🫣

I will say there are some locks that are only advance but are completely impossible. For an example, one of the slots needed only had one notch to slot, but none of my keys had only one notch. Idk if it’s bugged but it’s definitely annoying.

They are pretty cheap to buy and you can usually find a few around every place you loot ;)

You’re just trying to rotate the different keys to fit in the slots on the outermost ring. But yeah it gets pretty cumbersome after a while lol

I do not understand why people are hating on this minigame (or the hacking minigame from Fallout for that matter) these are the two actually meaningful AND playable minigames that Bethesda has managed to come up with in the past few decades. The braindead "move mouse until lock move" minigame was so dumb and pointless.

I understand entirely how to use the picks, but i came across a lock that simply had no answer. A fairly simlle novice lock, i got the first three, then the last one wouldnt fit, so i undid all of the barrels and tried for about 5 minutes to line up different pins to different barrels and when i figured a way out, the DIGIPICK changed shape and failed me again. 12 picks later, the quest im on can't be finished because i have no lock picks. Crap like this makes the game more annoying than interesting or engaging. Unnecessary nonsense in a game that is already vast enough to not NEED mechanics like this in the game..
