Thank you so much for this video. I am trying the DXO Raw. WOW!!!. After watching your video I was able to make it work with Lightroom. I didn't have ant success on my own. So thanks so much. I'm going to purchase it. So much better than DeNoise AI.

Hi, Cindy. It was helpful. It's pretty much the same process now even with the newer versions of DxO.

As a new photographer (2 months and 60 years old) I bought DxO PureRaw and it has really helped me retain more usable images even though I only have a Canon T2i and 55-250mm lens. I'm hoping to be able to get a 7D MKII because I spend a lot of time trying to capture birds in flight. My photographs are still not good, but I'm having a blast learning and putting them up on instagram :)

Great, Carl. So glad you're enjoying photography. DxO really is a blessing (as are the latest Topaz products). Cheers, Greg

10:53 why would you want the dxo images isolated from the originals? This is a mystery to me. Also curious how does this compare to Topaz? Also in 2023 the easiest workflow is to use the LR plugin which skips the import process entirely! Select set of images --> plugin extras --> process with DXO --> Export back to LR --> New images appear magically. It's quite nice!

August 2022 - Very good video lads, Ive picked up a couple of good LR keyboard shortcuts - anyway Ive been using PureRaw2 for a few weeks and I'm very impressed. I've done comparison tests (on raw images from my old 350D from 2006, also the 40D, 80D and my current 90D also raws from an old Canon Powershot SX50) using Lightroom Classic, Photoshop CC 2022 and Canons DPP ver.4 and as far as my 70 year old mince-pies can tell PureRaw2 wins out over them all for cleaning up the photo, improving sharpness without any artifacts and reduces noise by a ton. A great piece of software that is allowing me to see my photos "snap" now.

That's what I have just started to understand, not worry about the ISO. Also with denoise software now it is so good it can be dealt with in post.

Indeed, it's incredible what we can do these days with external software. Being in the rainforest, I really have to push my ISOs so it's a huge benefit. That said, I'll offer a complaint -- why can't the industry giant Adobe offer us these high ISO processing capabilities right in Lightroom :-) ??

Another good video. I have DXO PureRaw on a PC so my process is a little different, but your instructions are simple and easy to follow for both Mac and PC's. I have the same photo of that bird, you must have been standing next to me. Mine was at f4 though, big mistake. Zooming in the eye is very crisp, but part of the beak is slightly out of focus.

Open the raw in dio and then adjust in LR
@deepgreenphotography

It actually doesn't matter, Efrain, for global adjustments, at least theoretically. For local adjustments it is definitely to these after DxO. I plan to do a video on this topic soon. Cheers, Greg

DxO is excellent for low light wildlife photos taken with the Nikon Z7 & Z7II. I have had my Z9 since 28/12/2021, a shame there are no updates from DxO for the Z9 yet. Guess I will just have to wait. Cheers from Australia.

Hi, Bruce. Indeed, but I'm sure they will support the Z9 soon as it's proving to be a popular camera (with good reason!). Cheers, Greg

For someone relatively new to Lightroom there seem to be a lot of steps involved in getting the DxO changes into the Lightroom file (profile?) that was previously partially processed in LR. Is there a disadvantage to running the file through PureRaw FIRST, before making any changes in Lightroom, and then making all other changes afterward?
@gregbasco8844
@gregbasco8844 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Douglas. Indeed, there are a lot of steps involved generally. Some of that has been addressed recently with the PureRaw Version 2 update. It makes the process a lot easier when using the program with Lightroom. To your main question, the answer is no, there is no disadvantage at all to running your file through PureRaw first and then making adjustments in Lightroom. Your results will be the same no matter which order you choose. Cheers, Greg

Guys, thank you so much for sharing your workflow. It was extremely helpful! Question, in your video you are process your images outside of LR versus using DxO as a plugin. I may have missed it, but I cannot find in this video, or your others, what are the pro's/con's of using DxO as a plugin? Please advise. Thanks, James

Hi, James. I actually usually use DxO as a plugin from Lightroom. Check out my latest video on DxO PureRAW 3 where I do a quick overview of how the process works 🙂

Chaz.The RAW files from my Sony A1 are not recognised by my Lightroom classic.Will they open in Lightroom if I use DXO PureRaw?
@deepgreenphotography
@deepgreenphotography 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Chaz. I'm not sure about that. DxO PureRaw produces a DNG file on output so maybe. Have you updated Lightroom to the latest version? I believe it supports Sony A1 files now. Sorry I can't offer a more confident answer for you. Cheers, Greg

Right off the bat, I believe your suppose to is dxo first then edit.
@deepgreenphotography
@deepgreenphotography 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Derrick. It actually does not matter as DxO will work on the RAW file. When you bring it back into Lightroom, Lightroom will usually read previous edits (if you use .xmp files) and transfer those to the new DNG file created by DxO. The only issue I've found is that, since DxO applies some lens corrections, and selective adjustments (brush, AI selections, etc.) may now be off by a few pixels. So, with new RAW files, I do indeed prefer to take them through DxO first and then start editing in LR. But if you want to run previously LR-edited photos through DxO (say old files that could now be improved), you don't have to start all over again with your edits. And by the way, any LR noise reduction you may have applied will be zeroed it on the DNG produced by DxO PureRaw 2 :-) Cheers, Greg

First off you don't know that DxO is applying a filter to your image. Take that same image from Lightroom open Topaz DeNoise AI and adjust it, and it will look like DxO. So DxO is applying filters to that file....Lightroom does not. Also you are using LIBRARY to compare these 2 files. What is your setting to Import the original RAW file and BUILD PREVIEWS into Lightroom......this makes a HUGE difference in the quality of your PREVIEWS. If you IMPORT and use 1:1 Previews, that will give you better quality of a PREVIEW IMAGE. I keep noticing you people who compare DxO to Lightroom are not doing a good review or seem like you have knowledge about software at all. You need to understand how their software works to render an image.....spend time learning that first.

Greg and Keith weren't doing a product review nor a product comparison of Lightroom vs DXO PureRaw's noise reduction capabilities. They're simply showing how to use DXO PureRaw with Lightroom, hence the video title "How to Use DxO PureRaw with Lightroom".

@@Rex-qx5bf This is the second video I've watched from these guys on DXO and Lightroom, and both have come across as if they are marketing videos by DXO; They heap praise on DXO and don't explain much of what Lightroom can do itself.

Hi, Gary. I believe in this video we also give a comparison of the results from noise reduction in Lightroom. I may be mistaken, and it be included only in our video series on Lightroom. The upshot though is that noise reduction in Lightroom simply doesn't give the same results as DxO PureRaw (or Topaz Denoise for that matter). The video is centered on the fact that we like DxO PureRaw and have found it to be a super useful addition to our Lightroom workflow for certain files. Cheers, Greg

So i see you shoot 1/250, yet your lens is 600mm, any reason why you break the rule?
@deepgreenphotography
@deepgreenphotography 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Rodrigo. Good question. I've found that I can handhold at those speeds and, since light is low in the rainforest, I can use a lower ISO value when sacrificing shutter speeds. (If there's action, I will take the ISO up as high as necessary to obtain a suitable shutter speed.) And with mirrorless bodies that have IBIS and especially when combined with lenses that also have stabilization, the traditional rules no longer apple. For example, I took a tack sharp photo of a Resplendent Quetzal in Costa Rica a few months with the R5 and Canon 100-500 mm RF zoom at 500 mm handheld and with a shutter speed of 1/20th. As long as the subject isn't moving, you can really handhold at slow shutter speeds with great results. Cheers, Greg
