Been using Gaia GPS for offroading for at least 5 or 6 years. Didn't know about filing tracks into folders... guess who just spent 2 hours of filing? This video is probably the most comprehensive guide i've seen to date. Thanks for taking the time to walk through it on both the web app and mobile, all from start to end!

Please show hike as you are using the Garmin. Maybe some examples such as trail is blocked and need to make a new route or emergency and need to get back to car asap please. And thank you for your videos. Learned so much using Gaia. Keep it up :)

Really helpful, thanks. I've seen US hikers talk about the app but didn't realise how good it is in Australia also - knowing we don't get all the features.

Very helpful thx, just using the free version recently here in Ireland and works well. Wondering if can download and printout in 1:25 scale and use as normal paper map with compass, assume so?

Thanks. You video is very good instruction on how to create and download maps. I actually figured out how to do that pretty quickly, quite intuitive. Your video added some nice tips. But one thing I have found to be intuitive, and did not find in your video. Is the most basic function: How do I use GAIAGPS to NAVIGATE once I have created and downloaded a map? Anywhere I can find this most basic of all information? The tutorials provided by the vendor are 2 years old and my UI does not look at all like the ones they sown. Again, I am at a trailhead, I have loaded my saved map. Now, how do i navigate?

Hey Mouser, you've been killing it with the content, my fav hiking related channel. Based of this vid I've taken a look at Gaia and it seems over the last month or so the service has really taken a hit now that is under new ownership (Outdoor, if I recall correctly). An absolute barrage of 1 star reviews and a key complaint being that the app will log you out and require internet connectivity to log back in else you can't use it. Other complaints about price increases also. Just wanted to get your thoughts on the situation with Gaia - have you had problems with it recently or can you verify the current and recent complaints? Cheers. (I'm a paper map guy but have recently thought maybe I should augment that with a phone based GPS mapping solution, seeing that my phone is always with me - so I'm on the hunt...)

Thanks for the comment. Appreciate it! Yes, they are owned by Outside MagazineHave definately heard the complaints about price increases but haven't come across the logging out issue as yet. Having said that, it's been a couple of months since I have used it when out of phone range. Looking online there is definately some rancour that i can see. When I login both on phone and web i can't replicate any of the issues being cited so will hold my judgement for now. BUT based on the comments i am seeing i am going to look at some other options. I have used Avenza in the past so might have another play with that. It looks like they have improved their basemap greatly which is a bonus and probably a good app to start with. Will also give CalTopo a look. Have never used Caltopo but just signed up now and it looks like a great option after a 1 minute quick look. Will follow up with a vid some time in the new year!

If you mean the Mowser Logo shirts, they are only available on line at this link: www.mowser.com.au/mowser-merchandise#!/ If not these, let me know which shirt and I can point you in the right direction. I haven't done any multi-day walks in NZ. Have spent time there but not yet for a long walk. BUT I do have a wishlist of hikes to do there: The Abel Tasman Track, The Kepler Track and Routeburn to name a few. Also pretty keen to have a crack at the Coast to Coast race over there!
