Thank you, Susan. I have wondered for months why this one didn't get more traction. Also, this was where I learned the valuable lesson of don't wear black while working with gesso all day. 😁

Hi Geraldine and welcome! Yes, I adore gesso, it is one of my all-time favourite, go-to art supplies. Unfortunately I forget NOT to wear black when I am working with it and now I have quite a few black shirts and pullovers with their own gesso-y patterns and "mark making". 🙄😁

Love your work. Thanks for all this. Mark making is one of my obsessions so I feel so inspired by this.

Hello Miss Kelly! I've been familiar with gesso for a while. But I haven't used it much. Definitely going to be using it now! Thanks for the inspiration 🌹

Hey Debra. I really do use it a lot and I am working on ideas for a new video about tinting gesso and using that.

Hi Marci, thank you so much for the feedback and idea. I do use these in some of my altered book pages that I have shown in videos but let me see about making a process video that focuses more specifically on this. Maybe in April. Have a creative weekend!

Hi, the use of gesso is so versatile... I use the clear gesso to put a waterproof layer on my Bible pages. I love drawing and painting in it to enhance to my study. time. I love your shadow work and am trying to get the dang thing to work. Thank you again, Marion
@BookandPaperArts3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Marion. Speaking of Bible pages I just found that a 19th century Welsh Bible I have had in my studio for years has stunning engravings. I just keep staring at them. When I get them scanned I will show them to you. The shadow thing, just keep messy practicing. It takes a light but firm swish of the brush. But just keep working into it and making bigger messes. It's only paper. 😁

Hi Trina, thank you. This is actually one of my favourite tutorials and it didn't really get much attention. Soooo hard to predict, but I am glad you found it and I hope you will be making gesso-y messes very soon. 😊😉😎

Yea!!! Way to go preparing your book. Please let me know how the pages go. Oh, and FYI, you can also used the pulled work with acrylic paint so you may want to experiment with that. Happy making!

@@BookandPaperArts Thank you, I will. It took me a while to find the right book to use! Using the paint sounds like fun also, I'll definitely be trying that out.

Triple love this video thank you! Where do I sign up for your newsletter? Sorry but I can’t find a link on your website.
@BookandPaperArts2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, and thank you. Also, thank you for wanting to join the newsletter but after three years of making a monthly newsletter, it is no more. It simply wasn't thriving and it cost quite a bit of money and a boatload of time. I am, however, working on a way to make a video newsletter for KZbin and may be trying something like that in July and we will see how it goes. Stay tuned! And thanks, again. Kelly

Hey Missy, I always get so excited, when I see you have a new tute up on here!! Always so enticing and informative. I love the pulled gesso look, but I usually use inexpensive stuff from Michaels, etc, and it seems quite a bit thinner. Is there anything I can add to it, to thicken it up a bit, without junking it up too much? I just love those standing peaks!! Thanks for any help you might have, Kelli.
@BookandPaperArts3 жыл бұрын
Hey Lynn, thank you sooooooooooo much for making my day with your kind feedback. 🌼🌷🌻 So, two things. One is I recommend trying it with the cheap stuff, too. Just try it. It should still pull and it is in the drying that you get the stucco stuff. Two, if you put some of the thinner gesso out, like in a little container and leave it in the open air for a few hours, it will become thicker as the water evaporates. I often find that the gesso near the top of my jar or stuck on the bottom of the lid is far thicker. Try both of these and let me know how it goes!

Most interesting. I have a hard time finding things to use my pastels with. You inspired me to use them to outline focal points and backgrounds , and now i'm addicted to doing that. Now I'm going to try this gesso technique. Oh, and BTW, loved the newsletter last week. I have to go and download that St Francis print. I just loved that! Thank you for all your hard work.
@BookandPaperArts3 жыл бұрын
Why Patty, thank you for letting me know about the newsletter. The feedback really helps me. And it's funny about the pastels. They are kind of humble and really affordable but you can do sooooooo much with them. Maybe I should do just a chalk pastel tutorial. 😉
