Just a note for anyone buying a buttonholer attachment...Greist have models to suit many machines so you need to make sure the attachment you buy is compatible with your machine, otherwise you will be disappointed with the results. Greist buttonholers make beautiful buttonholes and well worth the time and effort. Thanks for the video, you nailed it!

Thanks for the great video. I've always been leery of sewing machine attachments in general and buttonholers in particular. I think that it's partially because they're so cheap and plentiful. It seems like everyone had one and no one used them. You changed my mind though and I bought one very similar to yours (mostly because it's black metal and matches my 1937 Singer 128). I got it off ebay complete in box (including a slightly different but equally funny manual) and almost unused for something like $18. It works so well that I almost feel like i did something unethical. Nothing costs $18 anymore, especially perfectly functional antique sewing accesories. Great tutorial as well btw, you're fun to listen to!

Thanks for creating this video. You did an amazing job of demonstrating the use of this attachment! I was gifted a 1950 MORSE machine and this attachment came with. What a life-saver since my modern machine is in the shop and this old gal is saving my sewing projects. Thank you! Thank you!

@@davemiller5875 Glad it works! I had to modify my machine to use a quilting foot and there were no instructions for it but it was pretty intuitive. That's something I love about the antique Singers. Have fun making buttonholes!

Thank you so much for sharing this video! You are very clear and thorough in your explanations and a pleasure to watch and listen to. Your mehod for starting and finishing the threads is the absolute best way it could be done. I just acquired the buttonholer with a pair of mid 50's pink Atlas model A-59 sewing machines that I just purchased from Craigslist. My research indicates that they are Singer model 15 clones so anything Singer will work with my machines. My machines (the twins) sew like tops and both look like they were lightly used. I'm thrilled with my darling pink machines and just as thrilled that this video instructs how to use the buttonholer which is in almost unused, pristine condition. Lucky me! I'll be looking at your other videos. I know it is time consuming to make videos and that you have put out some bucks for cameras and video equipment so thank you for that. Cheers to a wonderful needlewoman!

Thanks for this video. I have my grandmother's sewing machine which I cannot find instructions that are correct for anywhere. However this makes sense. If it's all I'm able to do on it at least that's something.

If your grandmother's machine uses the Greist buttonholer, the Singer 201-2 manual may be useful for you. Most of the old machines work essentially the same way. Here's a link to the free PDF of the manual: www.manualslib.com/manual/461356/Singer-201-2.html

You can drop the feed dogs with that model singer it is a little knob under the machine that you unscrew and move a lever and it disengages the feed dogs, that way you wont need plate to cover the feed dogs. There is a video here on youtube.
@SakiDoingThings
@SakiDoingThings 3 жыл бұрын
OMG I never noticed that! Well, now I know! I was just blindly following the instructions that came with the attachment, which was probably designed for use with machines that didn't have the disengage option.

When you disengage the feed, you can feed more fabric under the presser foot...

There are so many! The zig-zag stitch one is very useful. I like the rolled hem ones-there are several sizes. There are some ruffle makers, but I haven't used them personally. Pretty much all of the old attachments are great, if you have a need/use for them. I have never used an antique Singer attachment that I didn't love.

i have the same machine do you need different keyhole templates for different sizes of buttons ???

Yes, the little piece that I remove from the bottom of the device at 2:10 in the video can be switched out for different sizes of buttonhole.

@@SakiDoingThings my griest isnt working properly it wont move the fabric like yours any ideas on a fix
@SakiDoingThings
@SakiDoingThings Жыл бұрын
@@rndea100 Here are some things you could check: - Move the little lever (looks like a two-pronged fork) up and down. Do you hear a click? It should click and the bottom of the contraption should move slightly with each click. - Is the little lever hooked onto the needle shaft? It should attach on the nub where you tighten the thumb screw to replace the sewing needle. The lever should move up and down with the needle every time a stitch is made. - Is the device pinching the fabric tightly? If you have your presser foot in a high position (for sewing fur or other thick fabrics), you may have to lower it. There's a screw on the top left of the sewing machine that adjusts this height. My best guess is that it's the second problem-it's easy to forget to hook up the lever.

They are antiques. You can find them at estate sales, eBay, antique stores, etc. Probably eBay is easiest.

It is an antique, so the price varies, depending on the seller. You can find them on eBay sometimes. I got mine at an estate sale, but I was very lucky. Ebay is easier. =)

Sorry, I'm not sure if this is the right answer. I used Google to translate.
