I thought I knew everything about the use of "in fact" before this video, but in fact, I didn't! In my native language we have a perfect equivalent of "in fact" but only to confirm and clarify what has been said previously. When "in fact" has the meaning of "in actual fact" or "in reality", we cannot use that equivalent word; in fact (😜) it's so weird to me that in English we can use the same expression to confirm and to contrast something that has just been said.

Thanks for sharing! I'm so glad that you learned something new! When I teach words/expressions, I try to explain them in depth so you can really learn how to use it/understand it. Both uses of "in fact" are, in fact, very common! ☺

Hello Jenna, Hope you are doing well. I am Syeda Aklima Akther from Bangladesh. I have been trying for two years to admit in the University of US to complete my PhD. But I got stuck in English Speaking Fluency. What should I do? Please give me some advice.

By the way ma'am, which is correct to use 1. Learnt or 2. Learned
@LearnAcademicEnglish9 ай бұрын
Both are correct :) Learnt is British English, learned is American English
