If you are a "little fish" IG is not going to waste their time taking you to jail, BUT if you become famous and are a "big fish" there is a good chance they will come after you for any money your posts generated for you and not for them. xd - I have seen some accounts on Instagram use songs from the Hot 100 without issues. I was reading that using 60 seconds of an average 3 minute long song isn't enough of the work for the copyright holder to be able to get past the fair-use doctrine. That the legal question involved is whether or not the reproduction constitutes the "heart" of the work. I was looking for more on this and I thought this video would address it.

In reality you could. 😯 Unless you are very rich and repeatedly violate the rules then the police won't come after you. The worst that will probably happen is that what you have posted will be removed (OR if you are on KZbin, you might have your channel terminated). I always hear that it’s 30seconds or else it’s copyright. my Instagram stories are segments of 15 seconds. Sometimes I would post a video or story with a song that I found on the “music” feature in the story app on Instagram. I’d use different parts of the same song ultimately giving me 3 different clips of the music on my video. I want to know if that’s copyright worrisome or not. Another concern; I have a video with a unknown song that was recorded played in the background on my phone while I was recording which I’m pretty sure it’s wrong but the video is maybe about 45-50 seconds long

Hi Jesus!! Like the video said, the time-limit on a song is a myth!! The only way you can use a song is if you have permission or if you use the Fair Use exception by using only 2-5 seconds of the song and then commenting and/or reacting to it afterwards. Many have a one year from time of download policy, meaning if the artist removes their song from that royalty free music service you may only be able to use the song you downloaded for one year after downloading. This means you need to check to see that his song is still hosted by the music service you downloaded from or that you're still within the one year window of your last download of the particular track in question. I am not a lawyer, but can speak from experience that this situation has landed me in copyright disputes in the past on KZbin.

I found one thing online Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Question about music: I make vids reviewing campgrounds & RV parks. I was at an RV park recently recording footage of the pool area and live music was playing, a live performer singing a cover of a well known 40’s song in the background. No, it is meaningless. If you don't own it, then you have no right to use it regardless of what you type unless you have permission from the copyright owner. All a person is doing by typing "I don't own the rights to this song" is admitting that they're breaking copyright law.

This is so weird, because whenever I upload a personal video edit of mine to Instagram, a notification comes up within about two minutes of it being uploaded saying "we've muted the song in your video because you may not have permission to use it in your country" or something like that. When I tap on this notification, it shows me a full list of countries where the song is allegedly freely permitted to use, and my country isn't on there. However, whenever this has happened in the past I always appeal to the owners, and within a couple of minutes the appeal is accepted, and the music in my video (aka the copyrighted song, I suppose), is restored. I've never had a video completely removed by Instagram themselves before, I don't make any kind of profit from making video edits, and I buy the songs off of iTunes, but I'm scared I'm doing anything that violates some kind of law? On one hand, I've been told that I'm not doing anything wrong by doing this if the dispute is accepted and Instagram restores my things, but only recently I've been worried that I'm doing something wrong or technically illegal by doing this when I don't even know if I actually have official permission to use the song in my country, as my country is not on the list Instagram gives with the full list of countries where the song is legally permitted anywhere, but I suppose on the other hand I can't be doing anything wrong because Instagram accepts my disputes always and always restores the music in my videos? Someone please please please help me/reassure me with this? Is it just Instagram being stupid or what?

I use iMovie and it lets you add copyright music if you’ve purchased the song. Am I able to use this when posting a video on Instagram?

Oh i used the same app called quick and i add music from my itune but sadly when i post it, they said its copyright,and been blocked automatically 😖

Unfortunately, you can't use your own purchased music from iTunes. iTunes music is intended for "personal" enjoyment. Once you post it on a "public" platform then you are violating the copyright law. I hope this has answered you question. Thank you for watching. 👊😁

You're really teaching what more than half of us already know. I'm pretty sure everyone in here wants to use their OWN songs that they already have in mind. Not the cheesy ass app songs from magisto or whatever crap you use. Some of us are professional editors that want to use our personal favorite music and edit to it creatively.
