I like this guys videos. He gets straight to the point with some great information and doesn't do a lot of incessant talking. Most of the other prepper channels blabber on and on about things that may or may not happen before they ever get to what you want to watch. This is good to learn if you are just starting out.

I find the hair straightener works great! They keep out moisture and light, but store in rodent proof container for long term storage.

Questions that arise often, and are not discussed enough nor agreed upon, is whether or not to freeze foods like beans and rice prior to storing in Mylar bags. The logic being that the lack of oxygen may not kill the bugs larvae and freezing is required. The questions of how long to freeze, how to rid the food of moisture when it returns to room temp, how long and how to dry the food prior to storing, and whether it's worth the effort to kill the larvae considering the risk of sealing up damp food. Many prepper channels and books either ignore or differ on the answers. Maybe Wallaby Goods can advise.

when I pack salts and sugars in mylar or any air tight container I use the moisture absorbers in place of oxygen absorbers-- these draw out moisture instead of oxygen. when I put bags in buckets I put moisture absorbers in the buckets

Can't stress it enough that Huel's hot and savory meals are fantastic for regular eating and storing. I eat it regularly for lunch at work and everything except the Tomato is awesome. I've been just stockpiling them on a shelf but taking one batch and putting it into long term storage with oxygen absorbers would be a good idea. I usually just order a little more than I eat so it has built up naturally. This would also work well for all of the beans and rice I have around. Spices may be the biggest win. I've never had a good idea of how to keep those long term and they're pretty important to keep from going crazy.

I think I’m going to get some of these, but I was curious if you could do the same thing with vacuum seal bags like we use for hunting? If putting them in a 5 gallon bucket or tote, I’d imagine they would stay protected, but wondering if the material makes a difference at all.
