It took me ages to figure out how to find kontakt view when running Komplete Kontrol , this was exactly I've been looking for and couldn't find from anybody here, until now. Thanks ! I'm using a Komplete Kontrol A61 which keyboard isn't lit up at all, so I don't mind that , instead I found the solution for a different problem I had and noone could actually help me with. Hi, I have lots of Kontakt sample libraries on my old Mac Pro 2012, I don’t think it loads slower, however these libraries are loaded into the shared folder location. Naturally everything that is loaded on your machine at some point will have an overall effect on your machines performance. But with regards to how many one can load I really have not idea, I guess everything has its limits, but as I’ve mentioned I have lots, possibly around sixty without out any adverse effects yet… Thanks for the question bro, thanks for supporting the channel.

ive spend days tryign to figure out how to load any simple instrument in komplete kontrol and failed, so i deleted it and left it on a shelf for 3 years. now seeing this, you can just click that down arrow (not in the section under ALL INSTRUMENTS, which, in english means 'every single instrument', what they SHOULD call it is "NONE OF THE INSTRUMENTS"

This was exactly what I was looking for, thank you! Even though it's pretty annoying that it works like this, how hard is it to have Kontakt integrated with the keyboards? I just bought the S49 and this will probably force me to redo all of my orchestral template just because of one simple aspect... *sigh* (unless the template function in Kontakt works with all the output routing, which would save a lot of time, have to try it out)

Komplete Kontrol has the “light guides” and allows you to play chords and ARP’s. Essentially Komplete Kontrol is for your keyboard and Kontakt is for samples. Hope that makes sense.

I am considering purchasing a new 88-key controller and the one from Native Instruments might be a good option as I use several Kontakt libraries. But my question is whether this way of launching Kontakt within Komplete Kontrol affects the performance of the DAW, as I understand that it will require using more resources per track. Obviously in small projects it would not be a big problem, but in large orchestral templates like the ones I use, with more than 300 or 400 tracks, I wonder if it could be a problem. I don't know if the projects that now run smoothly on individual Kontakt instances might suffer when switching to Komplete Kontrol instances.

Great question. Firstly, the NI 88-key controller is a great option. With regards to running 300 - 400 tracks I don’t think this will be a big issue, however I have no idea if there is a “max” limit on track numbers vs performance in NI Kontakt. Furthermore I’m sure you won’t need to run Kontakt in Komplete Kontrol. The main benefit of of running Kontakt in Komplete is key switching. Personally I wouldn’t be inclined to produce this way for large orchestral pieces as I don’t think you have control over automation when using key switches. The next big consideration will naturally be the size of the sample libraries you’re intending to use, for instance Spitfire Audio libraries are rather memory hungry. Therefore a 30 - 60 piece string ensemble all requiring a separate instance of Kontakt seems rather excessive, moreover may be very memory intensive. By all means experiment with Kontakt if you have a sufficiently powerful machine but I definitely do not think you’ll need to run Komplete in Kontakt in all instances of your production. BTW: my choice of DAW for large orchestral productions is without a doubt Logic Pro, that is of course if you happen to be using a Mac. Once again a great question. Hope this helps.

I have a question for you. When recording multiple tracks with heavy MIDI content, if each instrument/track has to be loaded into a separate instance of Komplete Kontrol, and then Kontakt within it, would that not be extremely taxing on the cpu, requiring freezing all other tracks, if that is an option within your DAW? Once latency gets bad enough, the keyboard timing is so far off it is basically unusable. Using multi-racks within Kontakt helps reduce that overhead. Has anybody figured out how to multi-rack with this particular configuration, by chance? Sorry for the total noob question.

Hi Craig, thanks for your question. You’re correct, multi-rack can help to reduce CPU load in many instances. However multi-rack isn’t always the best solution for all productions. Again, you’re correct about latency issues, however many/all DAW’s have an offset feature to deal with latency problems that may arise during tracking and mixing. I’m not sure there is a “one size fits all” solution to utilising the Kontakt/Komplete control multi-rack feature. I guess the main reason to use Komplete in Kontakt is key switching, the main reason to multi-rack is CPU load balancing and workflow. @@SoundkandyStudio Nice video... but there is much more to this: It is possible to use one single instance of KOMPLETE KONTROL using one single instance of KONTAKT is a multitrack setup AND see the light guides for key switching and mixing the AUDIO signal created by the MIDI input in realtime on the S88: 1) Create a bus track and load KOMPLETE KONTROL with KONTAKT as a plugin 2) Route 16 MIDI channels to that bus track 3) Choose the MIDI IN Channels on your KONTAKT instruments as needed To see the light guide for each track: Click somewhere on the upper part of the Instrument panel loaded in KONTAKT and you should see the lights change to the corresponding instrument. A little drawback: 1) You have to put the MIDI Track routing to the instrument into recording mode to hear the instrument whose light guide is shown. 2) The S88 will only let you see the first instrument as a "plugin". (an update away?) Mixing in realtime: 1) Create different outputs (16 Stereo) in KONTAKT. 2) Route each Instrument channel to the corresponding Output => MIDI ch1 to st1, MIDI ch2 to st2... etc. Now you are able to mix volumes of up to 16 (or whatever number of channels or outputs you choose) different KONTAKT Instruments using your the S88 Mixer function and/or your DAWs mixer using plugins to each FROM YOUR DAW as required, without first rendering separate tracks and/or loading them into KOMPLETE KONTROL, as the audio triggered by MIDI is shown as AUDIO in realtime. Conclusion: Without abusing your CPU by using more than one instance of KOMPLETE and KONTAKT you have (almost) all the benefits of the S88 and you can mix the audio on the S88 using the S88 MIXER which returns the AUDIO signal created by MIDI. But something tells me that you know all that, right? Have fun! :-)

Hi, that’s not a problem, you can still have as many instances of Kontakt or Komplete as you like. I guess the main reason to do this is to simply be able to see your key switches on your keyboard. Good question nevertheless. Thanks.

Hi, Kontakt and Komplete control are two separate apps, yes they are both made by NI but they are not really interconnected. You can actually load both application at once as plugins in your DAW, I’m not sure what the issues is… Please explain.

Yes/No. Your DAW will allow you to compose/sequence, Kontakt is plugin and a stand alone app, so in short you don’t need a DAW.

So I'm in Toronto and Kontakt6 cost $519 what instruments are included apart from those instruments which are already free in Komplete start?

That’s a great question. There are lots of options with regards to Komplete. Right now NI are selling Komplete 13 & ultimate. If you’re on a budget why not check eBay, I’m sure you can pick up a copy of either 11 or 12 for a reasonable price, both come with a huge amount of instruments and plugins. Please please please help me reverse it. Just bought s49 and use kontakt 5 with all mapping done for 32 channels. Now when I use the s49 as midi control keyboard in kontakt 5 it doesn’t display colours. I’ve really buggered it up and just can’t find the way to reverse what you said. Sorry

Hi, there is nothing to reverse. If you don’t want to use Komplete control simply don’t load it up, just use Kontakt. Nothing you have done is permanent. There really is nothing to undo. Please explain what you’ve done…

Thanks a lot for coming back to me. Appreciate it. I use a large template for Kontakt 5 and 6 in Reaper and this saves CPU.... up to 32 channels from only 1 FX bus. I’ve just bought the s49 second hand and am using it as a midi controller. When I go into a channel routed in kontakt 5/6 it no longer brings us the keypad lights. In other words I won’t it todo what your video was telling us how to make it not do. I was too quick to change it in line with your video thinking I could change it back. Sorry for the trouble. Just wondering if you know. Thanks a lot

Hi bro, as I did in the video, we need to make sure that we are using Komplete Kontrol and not Kontakt. It’s only Komplete Kontrol that allows the colour coded key switch change. As mentioned in the video. What I would do if I was you would be to start a new session, load Komplete Kontrol w/o loading your template, just to test that everything is working as it should. If you find that there are no issues perhaps it’s a bug in your template. If you are still having issues have you considered re-installing KK or Kontakt? As described in the video, nothing is permanent, you can load both KK and Kontakt. As soon as you leave the session all plugins revert to their default state and you’ll have to repeat the process. If you have however created a template perhaps the issue is there…? If you need to DM me or send me some images please find my contact details in the “about” section on my YT page bro. The kontakt player should integrate the kontrol and have seen so many posts moaning about the simple routing of key lights has been totally overlooked by NI.
