I drive mine manual mode all the time now, it helps if you have either a catback or muffler delete, just so you hear the shifting and makes it more fun to drive 👍🏽

I started using it because it's awesome but also because my car will randomly downshift at moments when I don't really need it to. Like I'm trying to go the speed limit in a 25MPH zone and it wants to upshift or downshift abruptly

Have you done anything to upgrade the cooling, fluid, gear ratios and final drive ratio? I heard all of those things make a huge difference. Do you let your foot off the gas when you down shift?

Nope the only after market cooling on the car is the oil cooler at this time. And no you can keep your foot in throttle

It will do it automatically, that's just the sound of the car switching clutches in the DCT or something

It's cool to have both auto and manual options, especially since 'real' manuals are mostly a thing of the past. It's a night and day difference. Old school manuals are the best, but paddle shifters are better than the ho hum auto.

It is a thing of the Past. I just got an 86 and got it in Automatic. Having Both options is a perfect compromise. I Commute alot and having the Auto option is great when im tired off work and i just want to get home. and when i want to have some fun i can switch it to Manual Mode and either feel like a Rally Driver with the Up-down Shifter or a F1 Formula Racer with the Paddle Shifters. Its Awesome Alot of Manual Purists cant see beyond the clutch pedal, and while that is a great experience, its NOT the only one. Modern Competitive Racing at its highest level is all about Sequential gearboxes, paddle shifters and Shifters without the H-Pattern just make it Much faster to switch gears and its far more reliable. If you ask me this car in Automatic is more akin to Modern GT Racing competitions than its Manual counterpart.

2nd gear generates more power so it makes you faster for merging overtaking etc, thats where the saying “drop a gear and disappear” comes from as lower gears got more power 😊

I own a 2014 FR-S Auto. I was expecting the Automatic to be sluggish, but to my surprise its pretty responsive, minimal lag for a car with no DCT. Upshifts are quicker than the downshifts though. But you wouldn't regret getting an Automatic TBH.

He and I both live in Atlanta, and traffic here is one of the worst in the country due to how the infrastructure is. Sitting in traffic is the daily routine here and if you want to have a sports car that you can daily like the 86, the traffic is a big conversation
