I usually use organic compost/peat moss/worm castings and perlite for my potting mix. I use Micorizal Fungi too. I wonder if I added a little vermiculite too whether that could improve my mix? Maybe not 50/50 but atleast 25% vermiculite

Your ingredients are wonderful to use. The vermiculite will increase drainage the more you use it. How much you add is up to how much drainage/air the plants you are growing require. Happy gardening!

I still haven't cleared out the differences between vermiculite and zeolite... Any knowledge on these two? Can I use them on the same mix?

I haven't used zeolite myself. To my understanding Zeolite helps retain nutrients in the soil, retains soil moisture, and loosens clay soil. Perlite helps the soil "breath" by allowing air and water to flow through.

Can I use 1/4 perlite in bottom of wicking pot ,and 1/2 potting mix and 1/4 vermiculite for celery seeds to grow. Or should i have vermiculite on bottom and perlite on top.Thanks

I prefer mixing them to find the correct balance. More Perlite = increased drainage and less water holding capacity. Keep your seeds moist when germinating but allow that water to drain, good luck.

Good info on the difference between perlite and vermiculite, but raw wood - be it chips or sawdust - needs nitrogen to break down and will steal every bit available in your garden until it does, leaving your soil pretty much useless for a few years. I would avoid wood at all costs because of this.

This is not for garden soil, but for potting mix. I add nutrition as needed. Haven't noticed any Nitrogen deficiencies while using it so far. I agree though, I don't mix wood chips into my garden beds. Thanks and happy gardening to you.

I have a question that seems to have a thousand answers, can you just use a 50/50 mix of perlite and vermiculite?
@fieldtrippin12 ай бұрын
I would use a mix like that for rooting cuttings and clones.
@bolster1012 ай бұрын
@@fieldtrippin1 I agree, i just done some seedlings with that combo and felt it needed more so I've added a rich indoor potting mix to the combo and believe a 50/50 of just perlite and vermiculite are too course and baron beyond the seedling stage, future growth would seem slow without the added soil.
