hi! I've noticed that if you pitch shift any track slightly (even just -1 SEMITONE!) then track-ID apps like Shazam and Soundhound WON'T FIND the played track! :) Which is GREAT news for DJs as it's VERY ANNOYING when you get all these people in the crowd holding their phones out and finding out whatever tracks you (have discovered and) play at a gig. And since a mere -1 semitone pitch shift is a barely audible difference in most tracks - meaning that I don't mind pitch-shifting EVERYTHING - is there a way to use Serato's PNT function so that it affects the MAIN MIX'S pitch to -1 semitone (whatever the original pitch is for each track)?? Like something we can just set as a DEFAULT PITCH SHIFT TO THE MAIN OUTPUT OF ALL TRACKS so that nothing we play can be discoverable?? ;)

Man 1 semitone is a big difference, I want to listen to songs in their original pitch. I mean you could also turn off the key lock and mix the old-school way, that would have a similar effect

I'll have to try this. I use the S9, 62 and Pioneer Controllers. I've been doing this manually vs midi-mapping the performance pads. ;)

is harmonic mixing important for hip-hop? I know it is for drum n bass
@skate1snow
@skate1snow 7 жыл бұрын
DJ ERUE Not for hip hop because the vocals will sound off. Maybe if your just key syncing the intro and then switching it back when the vocals come in.
@djtrayze
@djtrayze 7 жыл бұрын
this is wholly and completely incorrect. harmonic mixing is important for ANY TYPE OF MUSIC. ANY TYPE OF MUSIC. Not all music is created equal, but all music has SOME sort of melody. I can give you hundreds of examples of how hip hop can be beautifully mixed using harmonic mixing. Like I mentioned in the video, its important to consider HOW FAR you change the pitch of each song. Changing the pitch too far up or down can make any song sound unnatural.
@djtrayze
@djtrayze 7 жыл бұрын
short answer: harmonic mixing is great for ANY type of music. cheers!

This is true, but DJing is subjective and for me I rarely use key sync. I do sometimes find it useful for mixing in different genre's. However I tend to not worry too much about the key and just focus on the vibe. It sounds weird to me to pitch an artists voice, also I find the crowd is usually used to the original key. But to each his own bro! Who knows maybe I'll try using it a little more haha.

+Nick Shene Oh okay,but what would be the point of that though?I know in the 1980s'they had a mixer that covered the wires behind the mixer too.I think Jam master Jay had one,I would say to myself where's the wires at?Someone told me that the wires were underneath the mixer.

Why am I more ok with changing the BPM of a song to make a good blend than I am with changing the key of a song?
@erwinkunze4091
@erwinkunze4091 7 жыл бұрын
Crash Kinkaide ~ I felt the same when I was using the Traktor software, then I changed to Serato and it seems the transitions weren’t too smooth, now I use bpm sync, mix in key and pitch in time to be able to accomplish a smooth mix. I’m beginning to think that Serato just wants to sell you more stuff, whereas with Traktor you don’t need all those packages to make a tight transition, just BPM and it sounds amazing.
@CrashKinkaide
@CrashKinkaide 7 жыл бұрын
Ok. That's kinda creepy, as I've only ever used Traktor with any degree of regularity. Are you CIA? NSA? ARE YOU IN MY HEAD????
@zendygarrido6177

It is a preference. Non-trained ears will never notice if things are offkey, but djs who pay more attention to detail find more and better ways to transition. Any dj can beatmatch, making a routine while mixing in key and playing tones takes dedication. See, these new mixers have left 1990's vextax mixers in the dust for they are designed to make djs live producers, mixers and remixers. Plain beatmatching a good playlist does not cut it anymore. These technological toys are forcing us to become more than a dj, but only the real dedecated ones take the effort into making better and multi tasking transitions.

Rane 62 is falling down the ladder with the s9 gaining popularity
@djtrayze
@djtrayze 7 жыл бұрын
this is a very subjective comment. My use of the S9 for this particular video was strictly a personal preference (I even disclaimer this in the video). Coming from someone that owns both mixers, they both have their own strengths and weaknesses. Neither is perfect or all-encompassing when it comes to features and flexibility. cheers! :-)
