How to Use Plant Self Watering Spikes? Worth it?

Thank you for this. I bought 20 of them and didn’t know how to make them work because there were no instructions so I didn’t know that the bottom of the bottle had to removed or I had to put an air hole in it.

Great video and explanation! Might have been nice to show how you filled yours up and how you placed the holes in your bottle to increase airflow. The instructions provided with my kit were pretty poor. One liter bottle didn’t work for me because the screw on cap was too small to attach the device. 2 liter worked great but I had to remove the plastic ring from the bottle screw cap for improved fit and to keep the water from leaking at that connection. I poked holes in the bottom of my bottle to create airflow but I had a terrible time filling the bottle up with water (I think I put too many holes in it!). I’m going to try using another bottle and put only one (maybe two holes only) to see if that allows for easy filling. If that doesn’t work, then I’ll cut the bottom off, cover with plastic wrap (to prevent excess evaporation) and poke holes in plastic wrap holes to increase air flow.

Hey i also have this but my issue is that once the bottle becomes half empty it stops dripping. Did you ever encounter this ?? And did you know how to fix it?

@@mamambootybootybooty not at all sadly, i even cut the top incase it needed more air, but alas that didn't help either. With a 1.5 L i discovered that at MOST it will only efficienctly work for 2 days

If the top of the bottle is cut, dust/particles may clog the drip in due course of time.

@@HIGHER7RUTH it doesn’t work. The size of the drop is proportional to the height of the water column above the drip. As water reduces the pressure of water decreases n the water stops dripping.

what is the tool used for?you dont have to cut the bottle its optional. where is tool supposed to be used? i see online text said top of bottle but doesnt that mean water escapes those holes? some say bottom of bottle i assume they mean top when kit setup so really bottom, is to release air presure problem?

yeah pretty much to make a hole to let air go thru when it goes down or else it will be stuck and the water wont come out, not the best design to be honest like you mentioned about spilling if there is hole.
