Teacher, can I use " I'd rather driving rather than walking"? Please 🙏
@MonicaRedondoArias8 ай бұрын
Hi there! That sentence is not entirely correct. You should say “ I’d rather drive than walk “. With “ would rather”, we use the infinitive without “to” and in the second part of the sentence we don’t need to repeat “rather”, we simple use “than” and the infinitive without “to” again. For example, “I’d rather stay at home than go out”, “I’d rather talk to her than text her”. Hope it helps!

@MonicaRedondoArias4 жыл бұрын
Hi alfredo valencia garcía ! Thanks for stopping by! With “would prefer” it’d be more common to say “i’d prefer tea rather than coffee”. With general preferences we would say “I prefer tea to coffee”, but with specific preferences, it normally goes with “rather than”. I hope it helps!

Is it necessary to use "to" after rather than. For example, i'd prefer to take a taxi rather than to go to school
@MonicaRedondoArias3 жыл бұрын
Hello! After "rather than" we use the bare infinitive, that is, the infinitive without to, so it should be "rather than go to school".

Gracias por la lección digame si would rather___than___ Prefer to___rather than___ Would prefer to__rather than__ Son exactamente iguales? podrría usar cualquiera de estas estructuras y seguirían significando lo mismo Podría dar ejemplos.
@MonicaRedondoArias3 жыл бұрын
Hola Darwin. Como explico en el video las tres se usan para preferencias pero para hablar de lo que prefieres en general usarías “prefer to” para algo mas específico , usarías las otras dos. Si quieres decir “prefiero andar a ir en coche”: I prefer to walk rather than drive. Esto es lo que prefieres siempre de forma general pero si te hicieran la pregunta concreta de “ como preferirías viaje mañana a Madrid” diríamos “I would rather walk than drive / I would prefer to walk rather than drive”. Saludos
@josuefernandez93033 жыл бұрын
I prefer walking rather than driving........could that be correct?
@MonicaRedondoArias3 жыл бұрын
Hi Josue, the "grammatically correct" sentence would be "I prefer walking to driving" or "I prefer to drive rather than driving". If you want to use "rather than" then you need to use "prefer to". :-)

Actually when you say that you prefer to do something it means that you want to do something at a specific time. Whereas when you say that you prefer doing something it means that you like that habit. Here are two examples:. I prefer to go for a walk in the park rather than stay in home. I prefer going out every day to being lazy.

The 3rd question is quite equivocal because the answer that you have put there is I'D RATHER INVEST IN PORTUGAL (RATHER) THAN IN BRAZIL.. I thought if we use WOULD RATHER, we shouldn't Mention it again?? I think the answer would be: = I'd rather invest in Portugal than in Brazil. Hehe. Please rectify me if I am erroneous. ..thank you in advance. 😊😇
@MonicaRedondoArias3 жыл бұрын
Hi Angelo! Yes, you are right, the 3rd question should be “I’d rather invest in Portugal than in Brazil”, otherwise it would be repetitive. Sorry about that! I didn’t realize, 😊
