I’ve heard that as soon as your resource production buildings (farm, gold mines etc) reach level 17 it’s worth using the production boost items (24 or 8 hours) constantly. Even if lower than 17 then it would be worth using some to get you to 100 activity points if you are near reset and stuck at 80-95.

Personally I would use 24 hour boosts if you really need resources or if you won't be on your device for a long period of time. Your city's own resource nodes will fill up quicker so if it overflows, it's a waste, that's why I say use the 8 hour boosts. Thanks for the question!
