How to use Samsung Magician Software on your new SSD

Magician software is not difficult to use but you need to know how to set a restore point after cloning your Hard Drive to a Solid State Drive. For some reason in my experience cloning a Hard Drive to a Solid State Drive changes the Windows restore settings and until you rest them, your Computer is vulnerable to data loss if you have a power cut when you are activating Rapid mode. So Magician will try to set a restore point.
I learnt from the first SSD that I installed in a laptop, restore points can be problematic on a newly cloned drive. So go to your Windows system protection settings and check that your restore system is activated. Mine was not and that is why Samsung Magician could not create one.

I have had the Samsung Magician Program installed on my laptop with an old Samsung 840 Evo SSD (for 4 years) and in that time it has had 3 major changes. The latest addition only gives you the choice of having Rapid mode on or off, the first 2 versions gave several options.
If you have installed your cloned drive on your PC and haven't downloaded the Samsung Magician Program, do that now. Links to the NEW Samsung 860 EVO Magician program that is installed in my Asus all in one PC, use the below link:
www.samsung.co...
I have also given you an Amazon Affiliated Link to this Samsung 860 EVO SSD I have installed on my Asus all in one PC:

Without the Magician program on your PC your New SSD will not work properly and you will reduce the lifespan of the SSD. At the same time as you are on the Samsung website, download the PDF file with the instructions on for your type of SSD and read them. Some SSDs may need drivers downloading but the 860 EVO, working on the Windows 10 system does not need any new drivers, because Magician will optimize the Windows operating system when you enable rapid mode.
If you have more than one SSD on your computer, rapid mode will only work on one of them. Obviously you need to activate rapid mode on the SSD with your operating system on it. Until you activate it, some of the Magician program settings will not function properly. The second SSD would then work simply as a digital store.
If you want an external SSD storage system running of a USB connection, you need to be aware that USB connections do not support the trim command and an external SSD that is designed specifically for this use is needed. The Samsung T5 Portable SSD is designed for that purpose. If you are interested in external SSD storage for your PC, mobile, phone or tablet, use the Amazon Affiliated link below:

Thank you so much for this video and for showing this really cool feature!. I just bought a Samsung 860 Evo. It's my first SSD and I'm trying to get the best of it. I'm in love with it's performance. Keep it up!

Hi Jonathan, I am glad you enjoyed the video. This type of digital storage is very good.

Sir, generally helpful video. May I just point out; Firstly, Rapid mode allows the hard drive to write to ram which increases the read write speech by huge jumps. From taking reads from 500MB/s to 60000MB/s. Depending on RAM speed. Your test in this video was to play a 4k video of a usb hard drive. Your rapid mode is for read/write of the SSD. Your test was reading the USB drive not the SSD. Not big deal, but just didn't make sense. Additionally you mentioned the Asus watt monitor, which you said "because we are in rapid mode is using xx watts" its spiking because your services are still booting up and your i7 will be in 'turbo' mode, creating a peak of power draw. Rapid mode on the SSD does not create a jump in power draw. Again - Rapid mode is only applied to the SSD, which simply allows it to use RAM cache. Your SSD has peak power around 1.4watts. Hope that helps your understanding

Thank you Useful Wisdom and I am working my way around the 5 videos in the "set" and so glad I saw this and then purchased the "Samsung 860 EVO" as there are guidance notes and clear optimisation documentation. Glad I have a desktop rather than a "All in One" although using a two person team had you both working closely together. Like you I will be making full use of the redundant Hard drives and using a caddy allows cheap back up storage off site, say at a friends house, Many people don't realise that viruses and malware can infect every disk that is attached to a PC so the kind of approach you are demonstrating gives a low cost way to protect your software and data files. Why make backups when we can now clone the entire computer as an image of clean software and clean data. I love it !

Thank you Chris. 4 years ago I upgraded my laptop with a Samsung SSD. The magician software was different then and made no reference to restore points. I assumed that because I had restore points before cloning the HDD with Samsung's migration software, they would work as before. It was not until I needed to use System Restore that I learnt the PC had no restore points to restore to. That is why I tried to hammer that point home and one of the reasons I cloned the drive with Macrium Reflect and not the Samsung cloning program.

1) Differences in warrantied Terabytes Written (TBW) endurance: Crucial MX500 is warrantied to 360TBW (for 1TB SSD) while Samsung 860 Evo is warrantied to 600TBW (for 1TB SSD). Both are more than vast majority of typical consumers will ever use. Question will be whether your use case would favor one over the other (will you be moving large files back and forth, for video editing for example?). Note: Everyone's use case is different, but for reference I've had my SSD boot drive for about a year now and I have not yet hit 4TBW (b/c I store most of my games on a separate hard drive). And if I were to move all my games over to my SSD, I'd still be under 5TBW so far (like 5.5TBW). Just sharing for some perspective on how "big" 360TBW is and how much bigger 600TBW is beyond that. From a practical perspective, you will run out of the 5 year warranty long before you will every likely run out of TBW for either drive. 2) Prices vary based on sales. Right now, the Crucial is about $13 less expensive than the Samsung (for respective 1TB models). 3) Cloning Software. Both SSDs use different software for cloning drives. Both are good. Samsung's cloning software is just a little bit better in that it is able to clone more drives (in particular drives from proprietary computer manufacturers). Crucial uses Acronis True Image which is also pretty darn good. If you're building a new machine from scratch (and not cloning), then this doesn't really matter. If you may be concerned about cloning a HDD onto this SSD and that your computer builder is known for proprietary software, then you may want to opt for Samsung for a little extra assurance. 4) SSD Management & Optimization Software: Crucial uses Crucial Storage Executive while Samsung uses Samsung Magician. Both are good, but they are different. One is not better than the other. So all that said, the Crucial is likely the better deal for you, unless you're concerned about being able to clone an HDD to the SSD.
