@@R_3079 I personally only use Signal now. It is open-source and does not track or use any data and those of your contacts! WhatsApp is owned by META, hence Facebook, Insta, etc are using your data and vice-versa. It was a very conscious choice for me to move away from WhatsApp and may not apply to everybody.

Sometimes it says Delivered right away, but usually it just says Sent for so long like a few hours and then it'll say Delivered. What does that mean? I’ve made a group on Signal and I was wondering if there’s a way that you can go into the settings and have the option to keep it so even if the group’s private that no one else in the group can see who else is in the group. If that makes sense. I’m basically wondering if there’s an option just like on Facebook so no one can see your friends and who else is a part of your Facebook network, just through Signal instead though. For example, every time somebody knew is added to the group it shows it on the main page and it says I could delete it for just me, but not for everyone . In my page is much about animosity. Or everybody would like to keep their information and names private as well from anyone else that might be in the group. I know the group is not being used for anything dangerous or bad. 😂 Thank you for your time. I hope you might have an idea when I’m talking about.

I've never used Signal, but you never covered whether or not the people you send messages to, either individually or in GROUPS are required to have Signal. I understand that people who don't have Signal won't have their own messaging encrypted, but will they receive Signal messages? I had problems installing Signal because installation uses two different PINs, one for Signal and one for the phone Lock Screen. That confused me, but I managed to get Signal installed on both mobile and laptop devices. I have friends who are on Signal, but I have no idea how to find them. Not sure if this is still relevant to you or if you or the folks in your replies are still looking for explanation but I will provide one as well as my 2 cents. The reason why Signal is being recommended to you even though it requires a number and shares features with most other messaging apps is because of Privacy. Other messaging apps either do not encrypt the texts you send, or they soft encrypt, meaning they can still decrypt it themselves since they're the ones who designed both lock and key. This leads to service providers like Google using messaging data to continue to build your AdSense identity, which is a profile that they have built of you over the years that tells them your preferences in addition to other personally identifiable data so that they can sell ads and then sell you things that are relevant to you (ever talked about something randomly and seen it pop up in an ad a short while later? Thats thanks to the level of spying they do). When you use signal, you provide your number as your username. This is similar to how WhatsApp works. WhatsApp also claims to be End To End Encrypted, meaning Facebook should not be able to harvest data from WhatsApp. However, recently the EU has flagged them to stop them from collecting WhatsApp data and combining it with the data acquired from other apps like Facebook and Instagram to build Facebook Ad Profiles of its users. This means they have been fudging the truth or just lying to us. Signal is also End to End Encrypted, but on top of that, this can be and has been verified by the general public. Signal is an Open Source program, meaning that the code behind the app is visible to anyone who wishes to read it. This also means that members of the tech community, which have a high concentration of off-duty industry professionals, look at this code for free to ensure that the Signal foundation is not lying to us. Data privacy is becoming an increasingly important issue that we must all tackle. The rate of data breaches is increasing, meaning that the chances of your data ending up in wrong hands is also increasing. Breaches can include things as sensitive as your SSN. In the case of Google, if youre using google messages, the most sensitive data that can leak is Name, Number, Addresses and contact information. If youre using iMessage or an Apple device in general, the likelihood is lower but still present. They are much much better about privacy and they have been independently verified to be so, even though their software is not Open Source like Signal. If youre an iMessage user, it is fine to continue to do so, as long as you know that blue bubbles are verifiably end to end encrypted, and green bubbles are not. If you send and receive a lot of green bubble messages, it's advised to switch to a platform like signal. Let me know if you have questions. Cheers
