Very underdiscussed but super important aspect of Skeleton King is how his summons work. They're noticeably visually different, and that's because they're Clones. This means that they'll die in one hit. But it also means that Mother Witch produces Clone versions of Cursed Pigs from them, making her far less effective as a counter.

I can confirm that this is unfortunately not true. The elixer is spent immediately when you press the button, and if he happens to die before the first skeleton spawns the ability gets cancelled but the elixer is still spent. I would know, it's happened to me dozens of times. However, if the first skeleton spawns before he dies, the rest will continue to spawn regardless, so you're kind of right (but not really). There's no refunded elixer except when the activation is interrupted by a stun.

Larry, witch, mortar, skeli barrel, bats, fireball, skeli army, and spear goblins… went 12-1 in a grand challenge with it. Play the mortar defensively or as a counter attack. And play larry on defense as much as possible, you basically get two skeleton armies and almost nothing gets through except spawners.

I use him in my hogexenado deck as a defensive counter pusher and it works great. My deck is already very defensive so having him makes it even better. And his ability works great to distract things while my hog does work on a counter push
