Question. Thick slip under process will crack or pill off ..how you avoided.

Do you make this slip or buy it? Can you make colored slip or do you have to buy slip in the same clay that the pottery is made from?

Hi Silver! I make my own colored slip using mason stains. The slip, in my experience, doesn’t need to be the same clay body. To make the slip, use the remnants of your clay and add water. Mix REALLY well with an immersion blender or whisk well to the consistency you want. Add the mason stain into the slip to create the color. Use a respirator when handling the mason stain....just as precaution. I have used BMix slip on red clay and it came out beautifully. Have fun experimenting!

@@sherrygKMA do you just eye ball it for the amount of mason stain you add to the slip? meaning you are basing the color on what you see is what you get? so just mason stain and slip? does it give a rough finish? I wonder what is the difference between the mason stain slip and engobe? thanks!
