How to use Solidworks for Laser Cutting! (Universal, Epilog, Glowforge)

This is all about how to turn your Solidworks creations into files that your laser cutter can use! Long story short you will need to right click on the surfaces that you want to export, (make sure they are planar), and select Export to DXF/DWG. Then, take that file and import it into Illustrator, change the stroke weight to .01 and adjust the colors to what your laser cutter will read, and simply use your print settings to send it to your printer. Its that easy!

What about exporting a part? I have created a solid part and then sliced it. Is it possible to export those slices?

What format did you export it in? And what do you mean by sliced it? Do you mean in a software like Cura, for 3D printers?

@@tyoteet.5682 Well in solidworks they have a slice feature, but that just created sketches where I wanted it cut. I ended up using Slicer for Fusion 360 and exporting an STL from Solidworks. This is also my first time doing anything like this.

Hey you seem to know what you're doing. Is it possible to use images to kinda like paste them on the sheet of metal and use as the cutting?

I've never done much with sheet metal, but I don't see why not. Solidworks does allow you to import SVG and DXF files, and I have made designs in illustrator that translated into Solidworks, so I do not see why not! Also sorry for the long response, thanks for watching!
