Do you have to seal this after using to keep it from brushing off?

some people recommend you do use a fixative/sealer, especially if using oil pastels because they don't really dry. Since most of my soft pastel work is in small format, sometimes I will just use something inexpensive like hairspray to seal it. Note: it can change the color a bit though. It's been years for me and not sure what all is out there now, so you can probably google it to see what is recommended. I will try to research and cover it in my future projects
