Thank you for the video! I just received my order. I am new to stamping, and so I do not know much about using die cuts. The die that I received for the swatching tag has other rectangles and circles connected to the frame of the tag. I am wondering if they are to be removed before I use the die cut? If so, can you show us the best way to do it?

I'm confused at the transparency... If both black lines are the same (beneath and on top of the ink/paint), shouldn't the whole square be coloured in because the ink/paint is fully transparent and not opaque?
@PayneWaterStudio Жыл бұрын
No actually the stamp is wrong. The T square should not have a line through it. A blank square means transparent, a square with a line means semi transparent, a square with a line and half square filled means semi opaque, and a fully colored square means opaque. After I stamp it I use a white jelly pen to cover the line in the transparency square if the color is transparent.

I really appreciate the instruction on how to fill out the properties information. I'm saving this video for reference. As an aside, I laugh at myself how the Copic swatch chart has influenced all my color organization. I always start my spectrum with BlueViolet to match my Copic swatch book - inks, watercolors, etc. - I'm brainwashed.

Just got the stamp and die cut, but I'm not sure which die cutting machine to get. I don't want to spend too much since I'd rather buy paper or new paints. 😁 Any recommendations on the most economical machine to get? TIA!

I thought the space after the thick black line, between the two thinner broken lines at the top and bottom was to be used for lifting colour. To see how staining or not the pigment is…

I use watercolors, do I need a Misty to print the stamp on watercolor paper?
@Waffleflowercrafts4 жыл бұрын
It is not necessary to have a MISTI or any other stamp placement tool, but because watercolor paper is usually textured you may want to use a stamp placement tool in case you don't get a great impression the first time. - Sunshine

That's kind of cute. All I can really see though, is all that extra white space that is being unused.

Tried using the swatch stamp by hand without the assistance of anything else, and the stamps turned up inconsistent and the ink would build up in the areas to paint. I am back to watch again. I thought it would be easier than it was.
@Waffleflowercrafts4 жыл бұрын
I have included this link that might be useful to you in how to use the stamp with just a stamping block: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGWznpRolJ2nbpY You might try cleaning the stamp after a couple of stampings so that the ink doesn't build up in the corners. I hope this is helpful. - Sunshine

I'm a total novice. I still do not understand much about stamping. What is that press you are using? I was told I need an acrylic block. I don't understand what that is or what its for.
@Waffleflowercrafts3 жыл бұрын
Hi Renee, the is a MISTI or stamp placement tool. It takes the place of an acrylic book, which you can use. The benefit of a stamp placement tool is that you can easily stamp in the same place multiple times if needed to get a crisp image.

4:30 - Add lots of paint to the left and bring it past the 3rd line... then, just add tons of water form the 3rd line to the end of the box... if you are using GOOD QUALITY watercolor paper - your watercolor will flow naturally into the water and auto-create the wash.... remove excess water with a dry brush and you are set. Seems to me like you are using stamping paper instead of watercolor paper.. thus your troubles!

@PayneWaterStudio Жыл бұрын
@@pesto12601 sorry commenting 2 years later but she wasn’t doing proper watercolor washes. You should have enough paint that when you lay it down and do horiztoal passes with the brush the bottom line of paint has a “paint line” (I call it a small river). Then clean brush and with water paint over the river ring it down and keep doing it until you get almost a clear wash. Tilting the paper also helps

That is absolutely not true that only the manufacturers can report lightfastness. In fact all artists should be doing their own lightfast testing because brands have a vested interest in making sure their product looks good. They have a lot of reasons why they might want to lie.
@danieljamesbinderystu29683 жыл бұрын
You made every color semi-transparant... also, there is no such thing as a triangle symbol for granulation, that is simply marked with a " G", also the triangle is for staining. If you have a square for transparency... you don't need a circle. It either one or the other. I had to cut my stamp up to fix these things.... my ocd kicked in BIGGGGGGGG time with these mistakes. Also, iam a professional artist and I personally test ALL OF MY SUPPLIES that I use for sold finished pieces.... I never go by the manufacturers lightfast ratings. Most will simply copy and paste lightfast info from their oil paints, to their watercolor paint.... or their acrylic line to their watercolors... lightfastness is dramatically changed between the 2. I have sooooo many supplies from all brands, that don't hold up to their lightfast ratings marked on the tubes. Every company is guilty of this... I learned my lesson the hard way, when I was just starting out.

@PayneWaterStudio Жыл бұрын
I agree! It drove me insane so I cut the swatch card in pieces I only use the top half cut out the section with the G T S and FL and don’t use it and use the bottom pigment info part. There shouldn’t be a line across the Transparency square as it means semi transparent. The Granulating triangle should be a square to enter G for granulating or N for not granulating and the Triangle should actually be for straining not a circle. This was obviously made by someone who is not familiar with watercolor paints
