Very good, clear instruction. I purchased two and am anxiously awaiting delivery on Monday! I have experience with other GMRS and HAM radios and this is nice that there are not tons of buttons, but it's a lot to remember. Perhaps, you could make a weather proof mini cheat sheet? ;-)

Great device! Now, I have a question about CT privacy. Sometimes we need to hear if our channel is clear when in wilderness, so we want the CT privacy feature turned OFF. On these particular Rocky Talkie 5 watt, does that mean setting the CT to 0 (zero)? And if so will the digital screen always display "CT" even if the tone is set to 0 (zero)?

Great question and yes that's correct! All privacy tones or sub channels will be turned off when you set the CT to 0. Because the digit never leaves the screen, the CT indicator will always be there as an indicator. can this work together with the mountain radio? want one for the noaa weather service primarily (hurricane season and allat) but would also like to simply have a handheld radio for convoy driving and offroading use

Absolutely! The 5 Watt Radio is totally compatible with our Mountain Radio and makes an excellent off-road radio. You'll have to check out our 5 Watt Dash Mount and hand mic, it makes a really solid setup for inside and outside the rig. -Nate Rocky Talkie Team

Do you have any info on when you would use a wide band as opposed to a narrow band?

That's a great question! The Mountain Radio is set to Narrow Band by default. The 5 Watt Radio comes with all channels set to Narrow Band by default, but can be switched to Wide Band mode for a given channel. You may find a mobile (vehicle mounted) radio uses wide band and most repeaters use wide band. While the difference isn't huge, you'll have the best audio quality and volume when you match bandwidths between radios. That's a great question! We always recommend checking local regulations before transmitting. Some countries allocate radio frequencies differently so it's important to ensure you won't be interfering with any local services.
