How to Use the Content-Aware Fill in Photoshop CC

Another Tuesday 2 minute Tutorial and today is how to use the content-aware fill in Photoshop CC 2021. This effect works on almost anything, cars, clothes, buildings, etc. So make sure to have a look at the pre-selected photos on my website to follow along with this tutorial.

Ugh! So I have watched many videos and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Every time I duplicate image & use the lasso tool then select Fill > Content aware it cuts out the object leaving it grey on the duplicate background layer around the area where I lassoed. Please anyone help!

That means that the image you're working with isn't rasterized. Try again but start with right clicking on the layer and pressing rasterize before using the content-aware fill.

You might be trying to use edit/fill on a smart object which you are unable to do you must use a normal layer.

If Fill is grayed out then it's most likely that your background layer is locked or not selected

Make sure your layer is not locked, you can find out in the layers panel on the right hand side, if your layer is locked there should be a padlock icon, to unlock your liar simply click the padlock

Make sure your layup is not a smart object. If so, make sure the layer is rasterised otherwise content aware will not work 👍🏻

If content aware doesn’t work to your desired outcome, you may have to use another tool like the clone stamp tool, or even the Patch Tool

Picture this: A man and a woman in a picture partially hugging (his hand on her stomach and his shoulder partially covering her shoulder). Can I successfully remove the man from the pic using this technique? I tried, but when i remove him & select "fill" for his outline, it merges the background and the woman together, thus making her look like a double headed alien is taking over her body 🙁

Why not just take a picture of the table without the cup makes Photoshop easier to replace the cup?

The cup is full with cacao and milk. Is removed with the tool content aware. The idea of editing the original is to understand the program, what is able to do. Just throwing the empty table ,that is part of the ability to overview the opposite side of your component in the edits skills.
