I'm so thankful for finding your KZbin channel! Somehow I've reached B2 without a solid grasp of the grammatical concepts in German, and now I'm glad I can go over your videos to strengthen my foundations. Ich wünsche Ihnen alles Gute, und herzlichen Grüße aus den USA!

Thank you Julia! B2! That’s fantastic! B2 is a very good level! I think you must be better than you are giving yourself credit for. But, I think the more we know, the more we realise we don’t know:) Es freut mich, dass Ihnen die Videos helfen, und ich wünsche Ihnen weiterhin viel Spaß beim Lernen. Alles Gute BB

Agree with Abilash, your explanation clarifies this topic so well. I had a reasonable understanding of dativ but this video definitely reinforces concepts that were a bit muddy for me.

After watching some of your videos I realised you are exactly pinpointing the problems a non-native German might face while learning German. Which is a completely different approach from the rest of the teachers teaching German. Most of the teachers don't realise how difficult it is to make these small connections in one's head to get the concept absolutely clear. All these traditional language learning rules are meaningless if one doesn't really apply logic to any language it will just be super hard to try and memorise everything which will soon be forgotten anyway if not practiced regularly. I've watched several teachers on YT and have had a few offline tutors as well. But this is the most helpful German channel I've come across. For me at least! Vielen dank! Viel Glück für deine Kanal!

Thank you for your comment - I’m glad that you find my approach useful - I teach at a uni and want my students to understand how the language works - and why if possible, and this is sometimes a different method than many are used to but I see so many people learning in an unstructured way that’s not doing them any favours. Also, danke für das Feedback und weiterhin viel Spaß und Erfolg mit der deutschen Sprache. BB

Nice! Watching this video makes me grateful for the fact that I did not have to learn German as an adult 🙂 There is one more thing though that might be worth mentioning - Using 'Interrogativpronomen' you can _ask_ for and with the dative also. Examples Using the simple pronoun 'wem' as the dative form of 'wer'. Undefined gender, undefined numerus = easy 🙂 Wem schicke ich das Dokument? (to whom do I send the document?) Wem gehört der Stift? (who does the pen belong to? Whose pen is it?) Using the 'Interrogativpronomen welcher'. Gender and numerus matter = complicated Feminine: Singular: Welcher Freundin sage ich Bescheid? (which -female- friend do I let know?) Plural: Welchen Freundinnen sage ich Bescheid? (which -female- friends do I let know?) Maskuline: Singular: Welchem Freund kann ich noch vertrauen? (which - male- friend can I still trust?) Plural: Welchen Freunden kann ich noch vertrauen? (which - male- friends can I still trust?) Neuter: Singular: Zu welchem Vorgehen raten Sie mir? (what -neuter- procedure do you advise me to follow?) Plural: Zu welchen Vorgehen raten Sie mir? (what -neuter- procedures do you advise me to follow?) So in plural it is always 'welchen' regardless of gender. In singular it is 'welchem' for neuter and maskuline, and it is 'welcher' for feminine. By the way, Billy - your German pronunciation is impressive. Congratulations! That sure was a lot of work and practice and required a lot of dedication! May I point out though, that 'ei' in words such as 'Ei, Eier, ein, eine, einer, mein, meine, meiner, ...' should be pronounced just like the sound in English 'my' or 'I'. The pronunciation actually is not sliding 'e -> i', but 'a -> i'.

Ich bin eine waschechte Österreicherin und habe überhaupt kein Problem mit seiner Aussprache. Das -ei- klingt keineswegs anders. Wenn man vor der Kamera hockt und alles betont und langsam aussprechen muss, ist das einfach so. Ich versuche auch Filme zu machen und bemerke dass ich es viel schlechter mache obwohl ich ein ‚Native Speaker bin‘.

Danke, Roland. There's a lot missing from this video on the dative, not just pronouns, but you have to draw the line somewhere (dative & adjectives; idiomatic phrases etc). Thank you for your comments on W..words. These are often too tricky for the real beginners, but I'm sure others will appreciate your addition (You'll need your own channel for more advanced learners perhaps?). Thank you too for your comments on my Aussprache. It should be good:) The hardest part is jumping backwards and forwards between English and German so quickly without one 'bleeding' into the other.

I have studied Russian for many years and the hardest part for me has been the cases. In German, likewise, the verbs aren't so hard, but the declension is tough.

Great video. I like your English accent a lot. Can i think of "Dativ" as a distant relative of "Genitiv"? It shows some kind of belonging - "to me". "Die Tochter ähnelt ihrer Mutter". That sentence reminds of "Die Tochter der Mutter". Otherwise the usage of Dativ is pretty clear for me.
@bausteine
@bausteine Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your thought-provoking comment! It’s probably no coincidence that the dative is often used instead of the genitive. I’ve got a video on the genitive schedule for sometime in the next 2-3 weeks, so stay tuned! Alles Gute BB

Hallo Ajmal! In honestly don't know the answer to this, but yes, I imagine that there different regulations in different states of Germany, but as I understand it, you need at least general B2 German to work as a Doctor, and in some states you might need a bit of more advanced medical standard German. I wish you all the best in fulfilling your dream.
