I have one and love it. It's a similar concept to the water tank that comes with the OXO pour-over coffee maker, but a much better implementation. I only wish Hario would make a 1-cup version which could properly fit on top of their 1-cup V60 or a Kalita Wave 155. A version with a hole arrangement to fit two-wall drippers like the Kalita Hasami 101 could also be great.
@mprz81882 жыл бұрын
Sounds good. But Hario knows that with the drip assist you don't need a size 01 cone to get awesome results, even at low doses. So no need for a dedicated drip assist there. But I agree with you in that would be great if the drip assist can fit on any of the 3 sizes available for the V60. I'll 3D print a simple adapter to mount the drip assist on a 01 V60. No big deal, quite easy in fact. In case your daily driver is the 01 V60, try using a syphon or aeropress paper filter on top of your grounds just after your bloom. This way you'll get laminar flow even pouring from a gooseneck. Works really well. Hope this helps!
@dennischiapello72439 ай бұрын
I've been using one the past month or so, and I like it. But to make sure it will drip evenly, I use a spirit level in two directions. This means I'm no more OCD than a real barista. 😄 By the way, I do not rinse the assist after use. Tap water in my city is very hard, so water vapor condensate is just dandy.

I've seen a couple of other videos were people are holding the drip assist in the air above the v60 and pouring, no idea why. Your method works really well for me. Thank you

Nicely done, mate. But I'm curious as to WHY no one demonstrating the DA (I own one FWIW) shows what their coffee bed looks like when finished? Something to hide??? Again, FWIW, ocasional my 40 gram, 600 grams of water bed will look like some tiny asteroids hit it...the side holes, obviously. Total brew time is around 3:15-3:30. So, was your bed level, or not so? Inquiring minds want to know!
@AlternativeBrewing Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question - no not trying to hide anything 🫶 apologies for missing this important point in troubleshooting brews. In my testing I did not find it made terrible coffee beds - there were some pits, but nothing that would demonstrate a concern. Rather it's better to use this with limited pits, than a kettle that has no gooseneck. .. This is perhaps the biggest advantage - over gaining any further control - if you already have a gooseneck, you're in a better situation to improve the flow rate and your pouring technique that way 👌

@@AlternativeBrewing I agree as to the coffee being slightly less nuanced. I noticed this with a very nice Ethiopian Yerg. The almost Gesha-like florals were muted.

@manuelpenaruiz36942 жыл бұрын
Hario switch is a controlled versatile immersion+percolation device, designed to be the most complete percolator using the famous V60 filters. The Hario Drip assist can be used with any V60 dripper, including the switch of course. So there's no way to compare complementary devices. The goal of the drip assist, as the name implies, is to improve the quality of the percolation to achieve a more even extraction and flavor.

Nice information . I have Melitta dripper 1x2(normally I use 18g coffee for this flat-bottom dripper 4:30 ). Would like to have your opinion if water-flow from Hario Drip Assist meets its designed- purpose since Melitta is not a cone dripper. Thank you

Yes, it still would, as long as it sits ont eh dripper alright - the intended purpose of directing flow and position of the flow in to eh bed helps in any circumstances of pourover brewing 👍

@AlternativeBrewing2 жыл бұрын
Yes I have - 30g would be the max for sure. It'd be a slow pour - as you would more than likely have less room to have a head of water above so much ground coffee in the filter. But it would work yes

Great question ! It's the DF64 😂 alternativebrewing.com.au/products/coffee-tech-df64-single-dose-grinder
@mprz81882 жыл бұрын
The grinder is Ok. Does great and that certainly helps, but the reason why you don't see fines here is the low agitation. Droplets are way gentler and don't break the static bonds that keep fines attached to larger particles. So they stay together making things easier. This way you get way less fines migration and thus much less filter clogging. This translates to a faster and more even water flow thru the coffee bed, no channeling and sweeter, mellower, more consistent extraction.

Question - what's the max capacity of water that can be in the assist at one time? I understand that it constantly lets water flow through, I'm just wondering how many times i have to refill it in order to get a 300ml cup. The less times (in other words the higher capacity) the better. For the sake of convenience. Thanks for the video BTW

Hi there, that's a great question. So I blocked all the holes up - and it can carry 115 mls of water. So i than unblocked the holes and tested pouring twice and got an average of 320ml over 10 pours 👌 allowing it to drain all the way through before pouring again.

Need some help. My daughter bought me a pour over container that can make 1-6 cups of coffee at one brew. It’s made by Stanley. Will it fit ok on my pour over mechanism? The opening of my pour over is 4.25 inches. I’m new to pour overs and I think this tool could help me get more consistent pours without having to invest in a gooseneck kettle.

I'd say no., and 11-12 grams would be about the absolute minimum in the 2 cup dripper though - without too much bypass. Best if this is your standard recipe, to get hold of a 1 cup dripper 🫶
