For those wondering how much it costs to take an uber from JFK to Manhattan (34th street for reference), it costs around $60. It costs $12-15 via the LIRR or $8 via the subway but it takes longer.

@Tom Jones 60 bucks...
@davidthaler70184 жыл бұрын
@Tom Jones Depends where you're going. Yellow cabs within the city are metered, but cabs from the airport charge a flat fee, depending on where you're going--downtown, midtown, uptown, etc. Midtown is probably $50-60 (plus tip); downtown is a bit less, uptown a bit more.

There's potential confusion in the station name "Jamaica Station". From the perspective of the AirTrain (i.e. when you're coming from the airport), the place where the AirTrain meets the NYC Subway is called "Jamaica Station". From the perspective of the NYC Subway (i.e. when you're coming from Manhattan) the subway station that meets the AirTrain is called "Sutphin Blvd/Archer Ave/JFK Airport". However, the last stop on the subway line is called "Jamaica Center", which sounds similar, but is NOT the same as "Jamaica Station" on the AirTrain line. This confused me on my way to the airport on the subway because I was looking for "Jamaica Station" on the subway map and saw "Jamaica Center", and almost missed the stop for the transfer to the Airtrain.

It's so true. It really is so confusing when taking the subway to sutphin blvd. :(

Update: A couple of months after this video was published, the fee for the AirTrain was increased to $7.75. Also, the only AirTrains that depart from Jamaica station ARE "all terminal" trains. Once they return to the airport, the announcement says "This is a Jamaica train" because it will stop at the terminals and return to Jamaica.

Update: as of 2020, the AirTrain had a fair hike up to $7.75, making it not as cheap. However, there is a way to get to Manhattan for as low as $2.75, the cost of a Subway ticket, from JFK, or $4.35 from EWR. To get from JFK to Manhattan: 1. If you aren't already at Terminal 5, take the AirTrain there (no fare required between terminals). 2. At Terminal 5, board the MTA Q10 Bus and take it to Lefferts Blvd & Liberty Ave. 3. Transfer to the A Train (it's a free transfer) at Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd. The A Train goes nearly the entire length of Manhattan from the Financial District to Inwood. To return to JFK from Manhattan: 1. Take the A Train to Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd. Note that there are multiple A Train routes. You want the one to Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd, NOT Rockaway Park-Beach 116th St or Far Rockaway-Mott Ave. 2. Transfer to the Q10 Bus (it's a free transfer) at Lefferts Blvd & Liberty Ave (right outside the station), and take it to JFK Terminal 5. 3. If you're flight isn't in Terminal 5, take the AirTrain (free between terminals) to your terminal. To get from EWR to Manhattan: 1. From any terminal, take the NJ Transit Bus 62 to Newark Penn Station. The fare is $1.60. 2. At Newark Penn Station, transfer to the PATH train. The fare is $2.75 and accepts MetroCards. Take the PATH to its eastern terminus at World Trade Center in Downtown Manhattan, in which you can transfer to the Subway to get you anywhere you need to go. To return to EWR from Manhattan: 1. At World Trade Center, take the PATH train to Newark Penn Station. 2. At Newark Penn Station, transfer to NJ Transit Bus 62 to EWR. I highly recommend you make an updated video, so you can save even more money.

David Empire awesome advice! As for the to and from JFK route, can I use the 7 day unlimited metro card, or do I have to pay an additional fare? Thanks!
@davidempire48744 жыл бұрын
@@FidAmic Yes. The Unlimited Ride MetroCard works with the MTA Q10 Bus.

David Empire perfect! And can you buy a metro card at Terminal 5, before getting on the Q10 bus? Couldn't find any info on that so far. Thank you!
@davidempire48744 жыл бұрын
@@FidAmic I think the newsstands in the airport terminal are your best bet, as I don't think there are MetroCard machines at the bus stop.

I hope no one questioned you. Because the airport is owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, photography is strictly (and stupidly) prohibited. Thanks a lot for the traveling tips! It will be helpful for when we use this airport for flights Newark doesn’t host.

Is it better to use Jamaica or Howard Beach? Still cheaper than it is from Heathrow at £10.10, £10.80 or £25.00 (though the Piccadilly line is an option, if you are a cheapskate, at £3.10 off-peak, £5.10 peak; I need to know this because whenever I go to the US I need to get a train to Paddington from Wales, then get back to Heathrow). One other thing that surprises me about the LIRR is that they take your ticket from you on board. I was worried the first time I used it that I would have nothing to put in the barrier (after all I am used to UK trains which increasingly have barriers even for regional and intercity trains).

I'm an uber driver and used to be a yellow cab driver in NYC . There are always bad apples , but 99% of us don't rip people off . It's a flat rate from jfk to Manhattan. If you think that a 2 hour ride transferring to 3 different trains with homeless people begging you for money is a great deal , then by all means take the train .
