Oyster cards seem to last forever too. I make business trips to the UK once every 3-4 years and my Oyster card I bought 12 years ago still works, and still retains the money I had left on it from the previous trip. In December 2010 I was waiting to board my plane to fly out of Heathrow when 3 inches of snow fell in an hour. The whole airport shut down for several days. First thing I did was reserved a hotel, then picked up my luggage, passport control basically just waived us all back out without any check, and with my trusty Oyster card got right on the tube and quickly escaped the mess. Queue to get a taxi or a paper tube ticket was 2+ hours long! Lifesaver!

I was in London last week, I absolutely love the city and plan to go back. The London underground is perhaps the greatest subway i've ever ridden in my entire life, and i'm from NYC. Really makes the MTA look like it's being run by a bunch of kids.

I know, actual padding on the seats (though I also saw this in other cities), and armrests to separate you from the person next to you!
@mphRagnarok2 жыл бұрын
Of course it does. The MTA is essentially a jobs program for inner city folks. The employees are all unmotivated people who would otherwise be on the streets or unemployed. That's what jobs programs are like... Giving jobs to people who are otherwise unemployable and as a result the residents get a really garbage service.

If not, I thought I'd get off at a station on the edge of zone 2, and re-enter using the Oyster PAYG to complete the journey to Wembley. Of course there are exceptions to the no button pressing rule - e.g. at Wimbledon when a District line train is waiting for its departure time the doors sometimes close, and then you need to click the button to get in. And to confuse everyone they must be pressed on the Overground and mainline rail. And I'm old enough to remember when they actually worked on the Central Line, before they all got buggered in a couple of months and they went back to opening all the doors.

Their is a cap on what you are charged on daily basis (6.5 pounds). Just put 10 pounds on your card and don't worry about it because you can take 20 train trips and you will only be charged 6.5 pounds maximum for that day. that includes bus transport. I just got back from my trip. Get the oyster card and do not worry. It will pay for itself in one day. I rode the train at least 10 times per day.

And if you’re in a wheelchair, DO NOT expect to be able to get anywhere. The tube network is fast, efficient, and comprehensive, and if you have mobility issues 75% of it is completely unusable. I came to London with a friend who needed lifts to access stations and platforms, and time and again both the two or three stations nearest us and all of the stations anywhere near where we were going were completely inaccessible. And this can’t really be excused by the age of the system either. Boston has the oldest subway network in North America-it opened in 1897, just thirty or so years after the Tube, and more than 80% of subway/light rail stations are accessible.
