You could create a second evening routine: Start with Melano CC Deep Clear Face Wash. Apply The Ordinary Salicylic Acid Serum and wait a couple of minutes. Follow up with Hadalabo Hyaluronic Toner. However, I would advise against using it in conjunction with azelaic acid, as this combination may be too harsh over time.

Hello, I just want to say thank you for your videos. I learned so much from them and can't wait to get started. I was hoping you could help me out and give me tips on this skincare routine I constructed. AM: Wash face with water (after experimenting I found my acne is less if I don't use the cleanser in the morning and only water) Hyaluronic acid or moisturizer (I can't decide which would help) Sunscreen PM: (this is what I need help on the most) cerave foaming facial cleanser Salicylic acid serum (I don't know if I should use a cleanser or a serum, what do you recommend) Niacinamide serum (I learned this from one of your videos and don't know if this is enough for me) I haven't used any of it before so if u could tell me how to start I would be very grateful and just to give u more info if u help, I currently have random breakouts of whiteheads, I think a little uneven skin color and uneven skin texture, I am not completely sure if I have blackheads or if they aren't, I have shaving bumps too because I shave my facial hair every day. And one last thing under my eyes seem very dull and aren't the same tone as my skin making me look like I never sleep so if u have any recommendations on that too then thank you. I apologize for the very long message, I have been a fan for 3 years now, and you are honestly the only person I trust with skin care advice. So getting some from you, I feel like it would help very much. 😊

Hey! :) Have you ever commented under my videos? If yes, I couldn't find any of your previous comments to get more information on what we have already talked about - so I'm sorry if I'm asking again... What's your skin type? Overall, the setup of your AM and PM routine looks good. You can choose an SA serum and then leave it on the skin or rinse it off after 15 minutes or so...kind of like a mask. This way, you can use a non-exfoliating acid cleanser in the AM and PM. If you have oily skin, I recommend choosing an HA serum; if your skin is more on the dry side, you may enjoy a gel or gel-cream-like moisturizer. How often you can use Niacinamide and SA depends on your skin tolerance, so you have to test it. Still, in the beginning, I would use Niacinamide in the AM and SA in the PM. If your skin tolerates it well, you can also choose to use them together. As for blackheads and whiteheads, you may also want to extract them with an extraction tool. For your shaving bumps, I recommend switching to a hair trimmer/electric razor instead. Like the ones you use to shave your head hair. This is what works the best for my husband. Are you referring to dark circles under the eyes or what exactly is your concern?
@discountanimation5952
@discountanimation5952 9 ай бұрын
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thank you for replying, yes I have commented on a past video but it is okay. I appreciate you answering now. My skin type is oily so I will use the HA serum. Thank you for sharing the advice on the SA serum. Do you think getting all my products from the ordinary would be fine or are there better alternatives? Also would the extraction tools not cause scarring? I remember using this metal white head extraction tool that had a small circle that you would press against the skin to remove it but it was painful and left some scars. So would the products help get rid of them on their own? I already use an electric shaver but are you referring to the ones that rotate? If so could you also share with me the one your husband uses? Do you think I should also opt for an after shave or will the products in my routine be enough to help. Yes, I am referring to dark circles. I have had them for years but I am hoping they are not genetic. If you know of any products or things to use to help fix it, I would appreciate it.

@@discountanimation5952 Oh, okay! I'm sorry, but I can't seem to find our previous conversations... KZbin sucks a bit at that. The Ordinary offers great products, like their Glucoside Foaming Cleanser. Salicylic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, and NMF + Beta Glucan are all excellent products! :) Well, the type of extraction tool you use matters a lot. I use one similar to this (it's not the exact one, but the shape is the same): www.amazon.com/Teenitor-Extractor-Treatment-Surgical-Blackhead/dp/B093RJ6R4V/ref=sr_1_7?crid=2Y9NVVQAAN7TZ&keywords=extraction+tool&qid=1701777753&sprefix=extraction+too%2Caps%2C280&sr=8-7 I haven't experienced any scarring. I mean, I extract my pimples/little dark spots when they are ready. After that, the skin is a bit red, but this calms down pretty fast. If it's a bigger pimple, of course, it needs longer to heal. However, in my opinion, the body tries to clean itself, so when a pimple is ready, I extract the pus and leave it alone. It also depends on the type of pimples. Like I wouldn't use that tool if they are deep under the skin and you can't see a head on the surface. Also, make sure to clean the tool after every use. Instead of Salicylic Acid, you could look into Benzoyl Peroxide and follow a routine like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKKcqGuomZ2lmposi=2Aap4SOXi3Upmj0m Okay, no, he does not use one that rotates; it's without the thin blades. Something like this: www.amazon.com/Philips-Hairclipper-7000-HC7650-14/dp/B081SGS655/ref=sr_1_15?crid=FDBGHGNXCRKW&keywords=philips+hair+trimmer&qid=1701778151&sprefix=philips+ha%2Caps%2C264&sr=8-15. He uses the shortest length, and that works really well for him. He used to have a lot of razor bumps and irritations from regular shavers like the one with 3 blades or so. But he doesn't have that issue anymore. Well, you may have luck with an eye serum or cream that contains brightening ingredients like Niacinamide, Vitamin C, etc. However, if it's genetic, there isn't much you can do. However, if it is caused by stress, lack of sleep, an allergy, etc., I recommend improving that so that your dark circles will improve.

@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Thank you very much for the advice and sharing of products. Just so you know the old video i commented on was "How To Use Salicylic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide And Retinol (Normal to Oily Skin Mild Acne)". I was wondering because you shared new products that i never heard of before, could you possibly make me a routine. If you have a video with all the products in a routine then please send a link and I can watch that. Whatever is easier for you. I'm thinking of starting to use a under eye cream/serum too so if u have any recommendations as well as how to add it in the routine that will help. Can i use glycolic acid and niacinamide acide then salicylic acid and if i can use it all together in which order should i use them (all products from the ordinary) or glycolic acid with the peeling solution?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 9 ай бұрын
No, AHA stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acids, and under this category, you can find Glycolic, Lactic, and Mandelic Acid, among others that aren't as popular. BHA refers to Salicylic Acid. Therefore, you should not use AHA and BHA with these products, as they are essentially the same. You should also avoid using multiple exfoliating acids in the same routine. The reason is that you expose the skin to too much of the acids, which can lead to irritation over time. The best approach would be to use just one of them, or alternate days (ideally in the evening). However, if you use the peeling solution once or twice a week, then there's generally no need for the other acid products you have!

What if you stop using Niacinamide and Retinol, wait for your skin to calm down, and then introduce one new product at a time? Once your skin has adjusted to it, you can include the other treatment. It's also normal to experience breakouts in the beginning as the skin needs some time to get used to them. However, if it hasn't calmed down within a month, it's best to stop using them and/or switch to a different strength or formulation.

Hi Melissa, I want to incorporate this serum into my routine, (morning and evening) however I am afraid of using it. My current AM routine is: Cetaphil Extra Gentle Daily Scrub Benzagel 5 Acne Wash (5% Benzoyl Peroxide) Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Face Sunscreen Lotion SPF50 My current PM routine is the same minus the sunscreen. I’ve never used any serums before, and I’m really afraid of a negative reaction, especially considering I use the Benzagel Acne Wash. Will this serum react negatively with it or anything else? When should I use it? I have sensitive skin, I believe. Thank you for all of your educational videos!

I think using it twice daily might be too much, so I would recommend not doing that. Alternatively, you could alternate it with the face wash, using each once per day. But also, how long have you been following this routine, and what results have you seen?
@sh1n0aa
@sh1n0aa 9 ай бұрын
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I believe I’ve started incorporating the sunscreen since the summer of 2023, and the Benzagel wash during the end of summer 2023, or possibly mid-July/August/early September. The results are quite nice! I noticed my skin doesn’t break out as much, and my skin is overall clearer. I have had no bad reactions to the sunscreen. Regarding the Cetaphil wash, I’ve been using that for a couple of years! No problems, thankfully! So are you saying I should, for example, use the Benzagel wash and everything else except for the serum in the AM, and for the PM I should completely skip the Benzagel wash and instead use the serum? Or even vice-versa? Just hoping to understand lol! Thank you so much for your time and help, your channel is really the best and I’m so thankful I’m able to ask these questions! 🙏🤗

@@sh1n0aa Okay, I asked because sometimes layering too many products can cause issues. But yes, essentially, you should skip the Benzagel wash and instead use the serum either in the morning or evening. At least in the beginning, this approach will help you see if it works well before considering increasing or maybe even decreasing the usage. However, that's hard to predict as it depends on your personal skin tolerance for these products. 😉 And I am happy to help!

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet okay! is it okay to leave the face a bit damp after cleansing? i like to do that so moisturizer really like drys into your skin but you need to use serum before that. so is it okay?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Жыл бұрын
Your face is damp when you pat it dry. However, some online doctors and influencers are spreading misinformation. Wet skin: This refers to skin that has a noticeable layer of water on it. You can see water droplets on the skin's surface and feel the water when you touch the skin. Damp skin: This term describes skin that has been patted dry on the surface but still retains some internal moisture. There are no visible water droplets on the skin surface. It's akin to a sponge or a piece of clothing that, while no longer dripping, remains moist to the touch. Dry skin: This term refers to skin that has not only been patted dry on the surface but has also been left to air dry completely for 5-10 minutes, allowing any residual moisture to evaporate. This process involves waiting before applying any products or continuing with other skincare routines. Doing so can be beneficial, especially when using potent treatments, as it allows them to absorb more slowly into the skin, thereby reducing potential irritation. The concept of "locking in the moisture" pertains to retaining the moisture that the skin has absorbed from cleansing or application of toners, serums, and other products. However, it does not refer to the excess moisture that sits on the skin's surface. This is the moisture that the skin couldn't absorb and therefore needs to be removed! Here's a simple skincare routine: Clean your face. Take a towel and gently pat all over the skin to remove all the water droplets from the skin surface. Voila, damp skin! Dispense 3-5 drops of Niacinamide onto your hand or fingertips, rub together, and gently blend it all over, avoiding the eyelids and lips. Wait 30-60 seconds. Take a bean-sized amount of moisturizer onto your fingertips, rub together, and then layer it on top. And that's it!

First, only little has been proven; the research in this area is very meager. Almost scary if you look at it; it goes all back to the same source and the handful of studies available, which are often not even independent research. But that is another topic. Now: 1. Glycolic Acid can be used daily; the issues arise if people use too much or are too young and the skin does not need that much exfoliation. So for example, you wet the cotton pad and apply it all over; do this constantly, and you will get irritated skin. Or if you are a teenager or young adult, your skin is still functioning correctly, so using it in that case may be not a good idea. 2. Who proved this? Names, please, or websites. 3. No, unless you are a skincare company/influencer trying to sell you products you do not need. It is not drying but, in fact, the opposite. According to the "research," available Glycolic Acid increases natural hyaluronic acid production, so there is no need to use another moisturizer afterward. And based on my experience as a real user, it is certainly not needed, and I highly doubt that someone using it (without a very dry skin condition) will have a different experience. Edit: I would even argue that it makes my skin situation worse whenever I do this. It may influence the pH or other ingredients you apply afterward, so it is very questionable to me. Overall, everyone needs to figure out the right frequency, but using its max 2-3 times a week is just BS, sorry.

Hi Could you please suggest which one is better Plum 10% niacinamide serum or the ordinary one for acne prone skin
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet

I did not test that one, but generally they are all very similar. I would go with the cheapest option in your area! 😉

Plum is great at hydration but if you are a beginner then use 5% niacinamide of the brand plum. Both ordinary and plum are great but according to price plum is good 😊

Hey! I watched this vid before I bought niacinamide. Its my first time using it. I feel like 10% concentration is a lil harsh for me to start off with. Can I dilute it with cold pressed rose hip seed oil? Rosehip seed oil works like magic on my skin
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can dilute it. However, it works better when diluted with its natural moisturizing factors, as it is a light cream-based formulation.

@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 9 ай бұрын
You can do that, but I ultimately think you need to use a light moisturizer, something like 'The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA' or maybe even 'CeraVe Daily Lotion.' Otherwise, your skin may become a bit too dry over time.

Hey, hope you having a great day. I just wanna know why my skin gives plasticky vibes after applying it. I mean it does not completely disappear after applying it on face. One can tell that something is there just by seeing my face. Is it normal? i’m noob in the matter of skin care products. Thanks.
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet

Well, it contains several moisturizing ingredients, but it usually has that effect only when you've used too much of it. So, how much did you apply? And what else do you use in your routine?

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thanks it is working fine now. I was applying like one drop on one cheek and half side nose. But it felt better when i used one drop for kinda whole face. You are right, quantity was too much before. I m learning, and i’m on right track now. Thanks for the help. I only use face wash and moisturiser occasionally.

@@pbelite7935 Usually, 2-3 drops are about the right amount. However, some people have a larger face and often use 3-5 drops. Therefore, I've adjusted my guide over time. For me, 2-3 drops also work well for both the face and neck. 😃

Yes, just make sure that the hydrating cleanser is suitable for your skin type. This means if it's for dry skin and that's your skin type, then yes, go ahead. However, if you have oily skin, you would need to use the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser.

You are confusing damp and wet skin because some idiot influencers mixed them up, and now many people cannot differentiate. It's a mess. Clean, dried skin is actually damp skin. So, what I demonstrated in this video is damp skin. Also, if you are still confused, you can watch this short video for clarity: How to Get Damp Skin kzbin.info9DeeoLkw1g4

Yeah, it can happen that the serum foams a bit due to rubbing. It should disappear once you've applied it to the skin. Try patting or gently swiping it over the skin rather than rubbing.
