Thank you Profesora Escobar! It was me! I’ve also seen an example of the use of ‘poner’ in a Spanish short story where a character named a stray puppy. Can ‘poner’ be used when describing giving a name to something? I can remember where I saw the story so I can’t give an example.

Yes, it was you jajaja. I am sorry I forgot your name. Regarding your question. Yes, you can use poner also in that sense. But only to something, also to someone. Por ejemplo: Tendré un hijo. Le pondré Manuel. This means something like "I'll name him Manuel"
