Thanks for your awesome videos! I use a shop's kiln in the area to fire my pots, just starting out, so how would I know whether your underglazes are safe for her kiln? Ask the shop owner what cone they fire to? And will underglaze stick to the kiln? I see you paint it all over so I assume it is kiln shelf safe? Thanks much!
@JaneScottCeramics3 жыл бұрын
Underglaze wont stick to kiln shelves at earthenware temperatures and rarely at stoneware temperatures but if you are firing to high temps then best to pop it on a stilt. Just in case. Some colours - particularly purples, do melt a bit more…

Lovely to see the things you make. I didn't see the making of this pot.....it is hollow isn't it ?
@JaneScottCeramics3 жыл бұрын
Yes its hollow 😁

Hello! Love your videos and teaching style :) I'm just starting out and wondering if adding clear glaze to the underglazes would then make it food safe after a mid fire kiln? I've read that underglazes can only cope with a low temp, so I guess another question is - does adding a clear glaze on top also protect the underglaze in a mid fire kiln session? Thank you so much !
@JaneScottCeramics3 жыл бұрын
Hi Laura, most underglazes these days are food safe... The underglaze i sell certainly is! I think we are having a zoom one to one teaching session soon? I will explain it all then - i look forward to meeting you through the screen 😍
@calieandco2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you put black slip on, bisque fired, then added underglazes. Is that so it doesn't rub the black off too?
@JaneScottCeramics2 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed. 👍🏼

Just lovely, thank you. You explain it all so well. May I ask what bran of brushes you are using to apply the glaze. They seem so “moppy” ? ❤️ I subscribed and I’m looking forward to learning more from you. Thanks again.

If I wanted to put some texture on it. Pin holes, scratches etc. When would I do that
@JaneScottCeramics Жыл бұрын
Texture can only happen when the clay is soft or leather hard 👍🏼

Hello just learning pottery and wondering do you have to fire after you underglaze or can you glaze over top of under glaze and then fire???
@JaneScottCeramics3 жыл бұрын
Just whack the glaze over the top and then fire it 👍🏼
@heididerksen82273 жыл бұрын
Awesome thanks
@heididerksen82273 жыл бұрын
Hi Jane wondering how do you underglaze writing on a piece and keep it that colour. I've tried a couple of pieces and can't figure how to keep the colour there. Without having it mess the colour on top and having the top colour cover what I've already done
@JaneScottCeramics3 жыл бұрын
Mmmmm, tricky to advise without seeing the piece…. Im a bit confused 🤣 maybe put the writing on TOP of the base colour…. So hard to advise you from afar like this…. Test test test 👍🏼
