I am trying to use a MD Rokkor Minolta 50mm lens to a Canon SL1. Fotdiox pro adapter "MD-EOS" doesn't not allow focus to infinity.....? any ideas? its a great manual lens that I thot I could use w/ an adapter but will not allow for full infinity focusing. Mayne the adapter isn't right, if not I will have to send it back but would like to know for sure......basically twists on easily....

I'm only used to manual focus with my slr and have just bought a cannon dslr and can't afford a proper lens for it. I've got a huge zoom lens for the slr which cost a fortune when it was new about 30 years ago. Will digital zoom work ok with it?

It's easy to shake and lose the picture with such lens, can work if you use it mounted on tripod with auto shutter

When I shoot with old manual lenses with my T5i I have to use the viewfinder, I can't use the LCD screen. If I do the exposure measure doesn't accurately reflect what the photo will end up being, so setting up the exposure correctly on the screen will result in photos that are waaaaay over exposed. But if I use the viewfinder they turn out alright, why is this? I read somewhere it has something to do with using a DSLR with vintage lenses, but your 40D seems to work just fine when using the LCD screen. Granted I don't really mind using the viewfinder instead, but I'm just curious.
@samipso
@samipso Жыл бұрын
3 years late but here it is anyhow: Live view ( using the LCD) focuses and meters using the cmos sensor. This is why it can figure out the correct exposure. When you use the viewfinder you use the AF sensor under the mirror to focus (superior method) and the light sensor on the pentaprism to meter for exposure.

I have a Takumar 50mm f/1.4 that works fine on my Canon EOS 5Ds R (all manual, of course ;-) ), but not my Takumar 24m f/3.5 (both ca 1970). With the 24mm, I get live view, but shutter release gives me the 001 error ("Clean your contacts"). When I taped the contacts on the lens, it worked.

The NEX series will meter correctly with these lenses so you don't need to set up the camera at all. You can shoot in Auto and Program right out of the box with no problems.

Hi! I just received my first vintage lens (with adapter) for my canon. Domiplan 50mm 2.8. When I attach lens, the aperture says 00. But through my quick assessment, I seem to be able to manually use it. I won’t know for sure til I actually get outside tomorrow morning and try it out. Is the 00 normal? Excuse my ignorance, I’m very new innthe vintage lens game.😅

@michaelsorrow7490
@michaelsorrow7490 8 жыл бұрын
You can use it, it's just that metering won't function. You'll have to use it in manual mode and guess the exposure. That is actually a lot of fun and it will teach you a thing or two about light and photography. But it will also make your shooting twice slower (manual focus + guessing exposure).
@nocback1
@nocback1 10 жыл бұрын
So, since it is manual, do you have to manually set the aperture in the camera to match the lens or doesn't this matter since the lens aperture doesn't move?
@ThatCanonGuysReviews
@ThatCanonGuysReviews 10 жыл бұрын
If your camera can meter by setting the setting in the camera do it. If not it does not matter. just set it on both just to be sure.

HI I HAVE A NIKON AND AM FAIRLY NEW TO DSLR. ALTHOUGH I AM FAMILIAR WITH MANUAL FOCUS AS i AM 43 .AND GROWING UP THAT IS WHAT I HAD. .MY QUESTION IS HOW HARD AND EXPENSIVE IS ADAPTERS FOR OTHER BRANDS OF LENSES .I SEE A LOT OF MINOLTA AND OLYMPUS THAT ARE ALWAYS CHEAPER THAN CANON AND NIKON EVEN IN THE OLDER MANUAL LENS ..THANK YOU FOR ANY INFO .

Hello, I already saw and responded to your question on Ebay. Adapters for Nikon are generally more expensive than Canon cameras as they need glass elements to project a focused image on the sensor. Lens adapters can range all over the map as far as price goes (from $20 up depending on quality/brand). I usually recommend adapters from china since they are cheap and usually of good quality as most name brand adapters also come from China. The reason that certain brands are cheaper is because they don't make cameras that naitively fit those lenses. Thanks and ask with any further questions, That_Canon_Guy

You will need an adapter FD to EF. They come in two varieties and I would recommend the one with glass if you want to use the lens for normal photography. There is some loss of light but nothing significant. They can be found on Ebay. -TCG

Hi, sorry for bothering you with this but, I have a canon 1200d and i recently bought a Canon FD 50mm f1.8 lens, and my problem is that i can't mount the lens to the adaptor after i adjusted the lens to manual aperture, like in this video > kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGGtlK2FpJ6Cfsk < i think its because the two red dots don't match up anymore after allowing manual aperture; is there any way of allowing manual aperture and getting the adaptor to mount together? otherwise i can't go lower than f5.6. Would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks
@ThatCanonGuysReviews
@ThatCanonGuysReviews 9 жыл бұрын
Sahin Yonten You don't need to adjust it to manual aperture as shown in the video you linked just mount it and then turn the ring on the adapter to close (or open depending on the adapter) to set the aperture to adjustable.

Bear in mind he's a young lad so his eyesight is going to be spot on. So, if your eyesight is a bit 'age-tired' (like mine), MF lenses on SLRS (even with focus confirm chipped adapters) can be a PITA unless you have the patience to fine-tune your focus in live mode. That's why I use mine on my Fuji mirrorless :-)
