I tried some yarn that I tried on the Addi previously that didn´t work, and low and behold adding some tension worked perfectly. I also use a ball winder before I begin and that seems to help also rather than pulling from the center of the skein. So thank you very much. I also turned a a slow regular pace rather than cranking fast.

Interesting! I just bought one of these machines and began doing this almost instinctively, maybe because I'm used to hand knitting and crocheting and I find having a steady control of tension to be essencial. I'm glad it turns out to be good practice with machine knitting too.

This is a very useful tip and maybe suggest slowing down the speed at which people use their machines will help. When I first started using an Addi type machine I would go fast like I saw in videos and got really frustrated because it wouldn't turn out right. Koala Knits and Knacks explained why slower is better. 💖💖🙏🙏💖💖

Thank you thank you thank you! This video has opened up a new world for me. Love following along with all your videos. Thank you once again for helping me so so much with #ThinkingAddi. There was a huge learning curve for me as I was a crochetor and had no knowledge of knitting what so ever, especially knitting on an Addi. I am currently modifying your cowl neck vest into a mens pattern, most likely a turtleneck, accented with "little johns" braiding technic in a couple of the front facing pannels. Sounds cool ha xx

Last nite, while working with my Addi, I discovered a yarn it "does not like."(LOL). It was some left over yarn that I used to machine knit a sweater on my flat bed Bond Elite. Had trouble with splitting and tucking, even though I always give my yarn a bit of tension when using my Addi. I did not experience a dropped stitch. After several tries I had to give up. On my flat bed, this yarn produced a beautiful sweater. I also cannot use a cotton yarn with the Addi. I found the crafting yarn sold at Michael's also worked well with the Addi for craft type projects.

Have you used a bit of plastic straw with your yarn? I find it easier to either place the straw next to the yarn, or I've even threaded a slubbed/fluffy yarn THROUGH the piece of straw, which made it workable on my Addi! The straw also has the added benefit of being able to ensure the yarn feeds properly under the hook. Thanks for your videos!

How do you get a more dense fabric? My projects are always really see through...
@YayForYarn4 жыл бұрын
Hi Emily. This machine is primarily designed for worsted weight yarn, but you can also use #5 bulky, or #3 DK yarns if you like. The thinner yarns will produce a more open fabric, since the needles are always the same size. Adding a bit of tension can make the stitches a bit smaller, but may not make it as dense as you like. If you want a more dense fabric with a thinner yarn, you can knit with two strands at once if you prefer. (Worsted is about the thickest yarn you can double. If you double bulky yarn, it will be too thick.) I hope this helps!

First I Love your videos! Your a very good Teacher and even tho i don't have the Addi Machine, i have one similar, called Sentry, that works very well except when I use Red Heart Yarn. It HATES that yarn! lolzz ! Watching this video, i'm going to go back and re-try the Red Heart yarn again and see if this works. Seems my machine loves the Caron-simply soft yarn the best. Thank you! I'll get back to you after trying the Red Heart yarn.

Hi question! So I bought my addi over two months ago, for the first month it was working great then once I got into the second month the addi started dropping about 90% of my stitches. Is there any solutions to this? Should I try the resistance method? Or maybe it just stopped working?
@YayForYarn6 жыл бұрын
Hi Lizzie. I am so sorry to hear that your Addi isn't working properly. I would suggest trying to put a little bit of tension on the yarn as you knit. If that doesn't help, there may be something wrong with your machine. Try knitting very slowly and watching to see what is causing the dropped stitches. Are all the needles not catching the yarn? Perhaps a few needles are damaged, not catching the yarn, so yarn is not lined up correctly for the next needle to catch it? Maybe you could try following the instructions under "Replacing a needle" in the manual that comes with the machine. That tells you how to take the inner part of the machine apart to replace a needle, so you could see if any needles are damaged or if something else is damaged. If a needle is damaged, it can be replaced with one of the spare needles that comes with the machine. Needles can get damaged if the yarn guide is not closed while knitting and the needles are banging into it, or if the knitting is super tight and the machine has to force the needles to go up and down. I have not had a problem like that before, or any broken needles, so this is just my guess. Please let me know what you find! Hope this helps!

Great vidoes! I wonder why cotton yarns like Peaches & Cream do not do well on the Addi? Any tips?
@YayForYarn5 жыл бұрын
Hi Pam! I think it is because the pure cotton dishcloth yarns do not have any give or stretch to them. They are also not as flexible as other types of yarns. I hope this helps!

Can you use an alpaca blend yarn on this machine? Also can you use smaller size Yarns like two or three?
@YayForYarn5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I have not used alpaca yarn on the machine, but I have used wool, and it worked just fine. So I would think that alpaca should work as well. And yes, you can use a smaller yarn, but because the needles are always the same size, the fabric produced with smaller yarn is at a looser gauge than you would normally use for that yarn, so the fabric is more open and a little see-through. I hope this helps!

I bought some yarn size 5. It is Woolspun. It would make perfect hats but... I just tried it on my Addi King and it sounded like my machine was slipping. I ripped it out and tried a #4 yarn. It didn't sound like it was slipping but like it was grabbing. When it did, I had the tucking, slipping but no splitting. I was giving it a little tension. Thought it might not be enough so gave it a little more. Then thought it might be too tight so loosened a little. I'm going to try steaming it a little to see if I'll be able to make use of it. I used a #3 yarn (baby yarn from Walmart) before and it worked fine. Did I mess it up by trying to use a yarn too thick?
@YayForYarn6 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda. I don't think you can mess up the machine by using a size 5 yarn. A size 6 yarn is definitely too thick, but size 5 yarn is supposed to work with the Addi machine. Unless you put so much tension on the yarn that you have to force the needles in and out of the stitches, just using Woolspun yarn shouldn't break your machine. I would suggest following the instructions under "Replacing a needle" in the manual that comes with the machine. That tells you how to take the inner part of the machine apart to replace a needle, so you could see if any needles are damaged or if something else is damaged. Hope this helps!
@lindastewart23066 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I tried a size 3 and it is perfect so the machine must not be damaged. Maybe I need more experience with the easy ones before trying the Woolspun. lol This is my fourth hat. Two were #3 and look great. The #4 has some 'hiccups'. Not smooth. More practice.

I'm so glad your machine isn't damaged! I have heard that some types of yarn can cause static electricity to buildup on some machines. I have not had this problem yet, but I have heard that some people run the yarn through a dryer sheet as it feeds into the machine to discharge the static. Maybe that could help?

I've had a problem with super saver yarn. This particular color is a little rough and scratchy. My machine gets stuck when the needles go up - the yarn won't slide down. I'm putting no tension on it. Any ideas on how to get this yarn to work?
@mariahseagle5733 жыл бұрын
I tried washing the yarn to make it softer... No luck
@YayForYarn3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mariah. If the needles get stuck coming up, I wonder if running it through the little hole in the yarn guide is too much tension for your machine. If so, maybe you could try just running it through the guide without putting it in the little hole in the yarn guide. If it doesn't seem like the problem is caused by the stitches being too tight, less tension might not help. If putting tension on the yarn doesn't help either, I have heard (though I have not tried it) that feeding the yarn through a dryer sheet as it goes into the machine can help reduce static.

Please help me. I'm freaking out. I just bought the addi pro. And I already have the loops and thread big loom. Love it. Now on my addi I can't seem to get my stitches to stop tucking I've tried everything. It does it all the way thru my work. And I've tried 6 different yarns. It seems to go thru the yarn instead of around it on the red pegs. Does that make any sense to you.
@YayForYarn6 жыл бұрын
Hi Towanna. I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your machine. Are the needles splitting the yarn? Is it tucking every single stitch, or just some stitches? You might try checking to make sure the yarn is threaded through the yarn guide properly. I would suggest putting just a bit of tension on the yarn as it feeds into the machine, and see what happens. Try knitting slowly and watching each needle as it knits. You might be able to get a better idea of why it is tucking stitches. Maybe you could also try following the instructions under "Replacing a needle" in the manual that comes with the machine. That tells you how to take the inner part of the machine apart to replace a needle, so you could see inside to make sure everything is in good shape and working properly. I have not had a problem like that before, so this is just my guess. Please let me know what you find! Hope this helps!

Has any body tried the Ice brand yarns on their Addi Express? Which ones work and which ones don't. Thanks!
@YayForYarn5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I have not tried any Ice brand yarns yet. However, as long as they are between #1 Fingering weight and #5 Bulky weight and relatively smooth, they should work fine when used with the techniques in the video above. Also, some machines react a little differently to some yarns than others, so it may depend on your individual machine. Hope this helps!

Why does my machine lift slightly. The cradle
@YayForYarn6 жыл бұрын
Hi Pat. If you are referring to the red part that the needles come out of, that part can lift up and down on both of my machines. The one on my Addi Pro can lift just a little, and the one on my Addi King can lift a bit more. I don't know why they do that, but I don't think it is a problem. I think that is how it is supposed to be. Hope this helps! Thanks!

I want to knit a flat panel scarf. What do I need to do to prevent the edges from rolling inward?
@YayForYarn5 жыл бұрын
Hi Laura! If you want to prevent the edges of a panel from curling, this technique can help with that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJq5p3x6fNiJZq8 If you use that method, it also helps to block the panel to help it lay nicely. However, I prefer to make flat scarves out of a tube, which creates a double sided scarf that does not curl. kzbin.info/www/bejne/en6chXZ7pNybbZo I hope this helps!
