The most intuitive next step, which seems so obvious that I believe they are already working on it, is to be able to create and share our own templates.

These are really great. My suggestion is for one that most folks don't want to talk about - death. We are dealing with our mom's death last year and had she not pre-planned her own funeral and paid for it - we would have been underwater financially. Every adult should have a will, especially if they have Child(ren) and/or any assets. Categories that come to mind would be: funeral expenses (included but not limited to service, creamation/casket, flowers, music, cemetary plot or mausoleum, etc), legal fees for wills, trusts, etc. Gratuities, court costs. After dealing with mom's passing (and thanking her in my heart for pre-planning), I have set up my budget to include the costs for legal services (will, medical proxy, poa), pre-planning and pre-paying my final service, cost for burial, cemetary plot. Not a happy happy category, but I will be taking the pressure financially off my child and letting him have the time to grieve without worrying about costs.

Such good insight… although, yes, not a happy subject

Yea this a good one. Not all situations needed for preparation are happy ones. I'd even say plan for a divorce as well since it's common that the relationship may not last.

Susan-this is a phenomenal point and suggestion. We'd love to hear more from you about this idea!! Would you mind submitting this idea for a template to our team? Hannah, I bought the first house I toured too - I forced myself to walk through a lot more but kept coming back to the first one. My household has grown from just me and a puppy, to a husband, two kids, a dog AND a cat and it's probably a bit snug but it does the trick, and we own a little bit more every month. These templates look fun and when life settles down (bahahahahahahaha) I'm gonna play.

Is there a way to set two goals for the same category? Like if there’s an introductory offer for something and then the price goes up after x amount of months, or if you need to make a down payment by a certain date and the balance remaining months later? Saves creating two categories or setting a reminder

I had heard about the transcripts on the Budget Nerds podcast, but somehow it still felt overwhelming. The video eliminated that overwhelm - thank you folks! By the way, I missed the link to the templates page at first, I think because the https isn't included. Could you edit it to make the link clickable?
@YNABofficialАй бұрын
YAY! I'm so glad!! I'm also someone who highly benefits from seeing things in action. Tell me and it goes in one ear and right out the other, but show me and suddenly I can do this!! The link to the Templates Gallery within the video isn't actually clickable (that's sorcery above my pay grade), but you can find the link in the description below the video!! 🌻 Hannah

I got accounts in two different currencies with fluctuating exchange rates it's almost impossible to have accuracy in one of them, I can't make a separate budget as there's transfers going in and out within these banks. Any ideas?
@Gpchv25Ай бұрын
I streamlined all my accounts to be roughly in the "main" currency I use and just update the balances whenever I am reconciling -- for example my account name is Bank USD // Bank EUR // Bank CH so I always know which is which but the amount on YNAB is expressed in my main currency. There are daily fluctuations but I find that updating/reconciling weekly or biweekly is enough for me.

I need a template for inflation and financial devastion.
@Friendlyfish-p2gАй бұрын
You can adjust your categories targets by the inflation % during your annual budget review (or quarterly or whatever your cadence is). It won't give you more money, but it will let you shift money around to plan for the true costs of things if you're finding that your budget doesn't cover current prices. And yes, being a month or more ahead and having an emergency fund are super helpful for giving you a financial safety net! Hang in there. You've got this!
@vermiliontyrant6366Ай бұрын
@@Friendlyfish-p2g what's an annual buget review look like?
@Friendlyfish-p2gАй бұрын
@vermiliontyrant6366 I think there are probably a few videos on this, heres one to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWm6p4V3i8ehi8Usi=1Js9BwVoJaYSDS3p (You can jump to 29:00 to cut to the chase). For me, the yearly review is a way to go through and see if my budget is still fitting my life. I compare what I actually spent (from the "reflect" data) to my targets, and then either edit the target to match reality or else figure out how to edit my behavior to fit my plan :) I also go through and add or delete categories for whatever things have changed in my life.
