Best description of how to give an inter muscular injection I've found on KZbin. Thanks and good job Utah State!

I don't know if he meant spine. Did he mean esophagus or/and wind pipe?
@voixlavoix Жыл бұрын
I think so because that isn't where the spine is. Like you said he's holding around the esophagus and trachea and vessels. Also you should insert the needle straight in not at an angle.

No he means spine, my vet explained the same when she was showing me how to do this for the 2 shots she left with me. The spine runs lower in horse necks not at the top.

Ahhh this explains it perfectly, thank you Dr. Hoopes. My horse couldn't have 2 vaccines done on the same day as another treatment he was getting so the vet left those with me! I'm scared! She explained it much llike you did and showed me with 1 he could have but it's helping to see it done a few more times before I attempt it myself.

I was always taught not to go in at an angle but to go in straight. What is the reason to go in at an angle?
@heelercs3 жыл бұрын
I was taught similarly. My understanding is that it might be easier for people to guide it in at an angle, but then they’re also more likely to break the needle. But I’m speculating

Always inject straight into a muscle, not sure why this guy did it at an angle, but you should always go it straight like a dart, horses are pretty muscular so it doesn't matter too much, bit in people, we only do injections at an angle if it only goes into the dermis (skin)

If there is blood what should you do

I gave my horses their 5 way and west nile under the skin on the neck, rather then intramuscular. Is this a problem? Should I readminister intramuscularly? Not sure what I was thinking?
