Thanks Slade! Another useful video. Just to clarify a point on using extensions on torque wrenches, my understanding is as long as you are using a regular straight extension is doesn't affect the the reading. It's when you get into using a flex head or crows foot that it's an issue. It's that distance to the handle that matters. Holding the wrench on the proper spot on the handle is always important. (Don't choke up!)

Sir Slade, thank you again for a great How-To video. My old '69 single port 1600 engine had the old tube type seals which you set aside when you first opened the seal package. I could never get those to fully seal up, even with goop around them (yes I know .... bad puppy!), but the newer seals which you installed make a lot more sense engineering wise for sealing the oil cooler to the housing, and the housing to the engine case (almost said block, I caught myself). Enjoyed the bloopers and the added photos of humor in your videos. Keep up the great work. BTW, some people call you Tony. Is that your first name, or just an acquired nickname? All the best from Surprise AZ!

I just watched your video about oil cooler seals I have a crazy question at 21:25 of that video just after you show Newman from Seinfeld at about 1 o’clock maybe 1:30 on the back of the engine there is a sensor just below your engine stand mounting bolt what on earth is that sensor for I have the same one but no wires coming out of it thank you Sir It appears to be a hall effect sensor. TACH?????
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 2 ай бұрын
Hi Steve, not a crazy question at all. If you mean the black sensor, right below, where the engine holding bolt is. That was an old sensor they used at the dealerships many years ago for diagnostics. You don’t need that. I just leave the sensor there and snip the wire off so no dirt gets inside. I think we’re on the same page.

@SladesVWBeetle

I’ve used anti-seize on plugs, with engines that have aluminum heads. Although they say the newer plugs have a coating that won’t allow they to become frozen into the head. Sometimes I still do it. Anti-Seize does change the torque value, but I usually do them be feel.

Using a dirty oil cooler is a great way to trash an engine. I mean one from a failed engine, If there is glitter in the oil there is glitter in the cooler! I doubt you can clean a cooler properly if it has glitter in it, I know people that have ruined new engines by reusing an oil cooler
