I would think the Mexican government (maybe the US gov't, too?) wanted to suppress images of that shantytown (is it still there?) underneath the pedestrian bridge. Last time I was there, it was obvious, filthy, and a very bad stain on both nations.

Im driving down to San diego from nor cal to visit tijuana in a couple weeks i was wondering where should i park to walk across the border ? or should i park in san diego and take public transit to the boarder ?
@Abel_XL
@Abel_XL 7 жыл бұрын
If you're staying a few hours, you can park at one of the pay parking lots at the last USA exits "Camino De La Plaza Rd" off the 5 Freeway. They charge around $7 on Mon-Fri and $20 Fri-Sun for about 8 hours. You can park a few miles away and take an Uber or the Trolley. The trolley ends right at the border. Are you visiting friends? Or are you doing a weekend vacation?

Thanks so much for your videos on how to cross into Mexico, and how to cross from Mexico back into the United States. They are very informative. I am a totally blind individual, and I probably made History a couple years ago when I crossed by myself from San Ysidro to Tijuana to visit some friends there for the day. I have family in the San Diego area, so I always try to at least go to the border, and make at least one crossing. It is just so unique to me to be able to go to another country for the afternoon or what not and come back. Anyway, again thanks for the videos

@kd6cae
@kd6cae 6 жыл бұрын
I’ve actually gone to Mexico twice since 2016, though I only crossed by myself in November 2016. I had an awesome time on both trips. It is absolutely amazing to me to see the instant change in culture when you cross the border. I look forward to hopefully doing it again possibly later this year. I am a bit of a technology nerd, so one interesting thing I was surprised, was how well United States cellular carriers covered at the border. I actually wanted to Rome to a Mexican carrier on the United States side, but Verizon anyway, covers so well down there, that I did not lock onto a Mexican cellular carrier until I was probably a quarter mile into Mexico. Wow.

I only went pre 9-11 so there wasn't a stop going into Mexico (though there was the building with the lines, x-rays, interrogators for the return back). But I seem to remember, to go into Mexico, multiple turnstiles, and a long assed pedestrian bridge. (Something in my mind says that I paid a dime to leave the U.S. too.) Am I confusing all this with Nueveo Laredo? Or if not, where is the pedestrian bridge route compared to going this way?
@Abel_XL

A lot has changed in the last few years. Yup, there use to be turnstiles but there are gone now. There also use to be a pedestrian bridge but it was also removed. I've never been to Nueveo Laredo, its it easy to walk into Mexico or do they inspect you?

@@Abel_XL Per this video. You are walking from US to Mexico. Before new construction, you would exit and there would be a pedestrian bridge that would take you over the CAR traffic heading in both directions (on the Mexican side). Now, they make you walk ALL the way to the Taxi area BEFORE you are allowed to walk back toward that pedestrian bridge? Based on your video, it looks that way.

@@Abel_XL In your other video (Mexico, back to USA) at the 2:25 mark, there is the pedestrian bridge I'm talking about. @Jonathan Ochoa This answer is in regards to returning to the US the short answer is "yes" The long answer is that it all depends on the CBP agent that you get on your way back. Everyone of the agents will ask you why you don't have a passport and play 20 questions with you, why you went there, what are you bringing back, simple stuff like that. Now almost all of the agents are pretty chill, but if you get unlucky you might get someone who will be VERY uptight that you need a passport to cross. After which you would probably go into a secondary inspection. Regardless of anything you should not be denied re-entry. P.s. be nice to the CBP agents they all have a very difficult job and are pretty chill, they don't deserve someone trying to be a badass.

I'm a US citizen planning to visit TJ as a day trip. Do I need to get a visa before crossing?
@Abel_XL
@Abel_XL 7 жыл бұрын
The answer to your question is Yes but Mexico has relaxed their position on Visas lately. I have crossed a few times now and they just ask to see my Passport then just wave me through. Visas are issued to you by the Mexican border agents at the time when you are crossing, if they don't require you to get one, then they will not ask you to fill out the forms. I think they are realizing that it costs way too much to have to print out all those Visas.

@Abel_XL

The Mexican customs agent may or may not stamp your passport depending on how they feel. If you have the Passport Card then there is no stamp required. I would recommend that you exchange money before you get to Mexico. There are a few money exchange places on the US side just before you cross. Pick one of them, hand they cash and they hand you Pesos. Also, just about everywhere you go in TJ, they accept US dollars. Most times I go to TJ, I don't exchange any money, I just pay in USD. Its a good idea to have some peso just in case. I hope this helped. Let me know how your trip goes.

If you are walking into Mexico from San Diego, the Mexican gov requires you to show your passport. If you are crossing back into the US, you don't need a passport as long as you are a USA citizen but its still going to make it easier on you if you have a passport. You don't want US Customs to potentially hold you for hours to prove your identity.

Good video, useful information. I plan on visiting TJ in the next couple of months. I'm considering catching a trolley from the San Ysidro Transit Center to the Mexican border. Will it be dropping me off at the trolley stops shown in the beginning of your video? I'm just wondering what to expect. Thanks.
@Abel_XL
@Abel_XL 7 жыл бұрын
I don't know where the San Ysidro Transit Center is but if you take the blue line trolley all the way to its last stop "San Ysidro", it will take you to the place in the beginning of my video. Make sure you bring your passport. I made a video on how to cross back into the US, you should check it out. If you are taking a taxi back to the boarder while in Mexico, make sure to tell them you want the "Liña Vieja" or "Old Boarder Crossing". There is a new boarder crossing (PedWest) that is popular which is just a few miles from were I made this video. If they drop you off at PedWest, you will have to take a long walk back to the trolley. Have fun and stay safe my friend.

Yup, if you walk into Mexico, the Mexican boarder agents will ask for your Passport, if you are a non Mexican citizen. If you are a Mexican citizen, they will just let you walk on by, but the Mexican agents will do "random" checks on those people. I would not recommend that you try to sneek by, there could be very bad consequences.

If you are driving into Mexico, they wont ask you for your passport. If you walk across, they WILL ask you for your passport. If you don't have it, they will send you to secondary and you will have to wait hours until they decide weather to let you enter Mexico or kick you back to the US. Having your ID card and Birth Certificates may influence them to let you into Mexico but its not a 100% for sure thing. I hope that helps.

@Abel_XL
@Abel_XL 7 жыл бұрын
I use to be able to just walk into Mexico with out having to show anything to the officials. But over the last few years they have upped the restrictions. I once forgot to bring my Passport and they sent me to their secondary inspection. I sat there for about 20 mins until they asked me a few questions and then decided to let me cross into Mexico. They told me since I'm not a Mexican citizen, that I needed to show them my passport next time I crossed or else they wouldn't allow me to enter. I have brought my passport with me ever since that day. There has been a few times when I crossed that they just waved me by without looking at my passport, I don't know if the agent was lazy or if they were told to hurry everyone along. So to answer your question, I don't know if the Mexican agents will allow you to cross without your passport. I don't know if your ID and birth certificate will be enough for them since they don't have access to the US California ID data base. I don't know what the regulations are for minors to enter Mexico without a parent. I would suggest you look at an official Mexico government website that deals with entering Mexico as a non citizen. I would also recommend that the both of you have, at minimum, a passport when crossing. I hope that helps.

Yes we do. Foreigners crossing into the US need a visa which costs 160 USD (B1/B2 or BCC). Additionally, if you plan on travelling further than 94 miles inside the US mainland you need a 'permit' called i-94 and it has a cost of 6 dollars. To get the i-94, you will be, questioned, photographed and your 10 prints scanned. If you plan on staying only in the border area, no i-94 required, only your regular tourist or border crossing card (B1/B2/BCC).
