As usual … awesome video. The photographer of one of my brides thought it was a good idea to take pics in the rain. You need to see this silk dress to believe just how bad it is. It became a mop after in was soaked. I attended the wedding … as the wet dress stretched bustling didn’t help much. Definitely going to pass on this info. And I’m pulling out some old linens, etc. to experiment with. Thank you so much!! ❤❤❤

Thank you that was a great video and information. I have my Mom's Wedding Dress and it does have stains from 1951. Nice to know I can clean it up safely!

Thank you for increasing my courage to wash my mom's gown about 100 years old and my own from 42 years a go that I don't think she had preserved. Braver after every listen. Thank you for a great video.

Thanks for watching. You can do it! & if you are scared to iron it dry, just let them drip dry. They will be very wrinkly, but they'll be clean until you get the nerve to dip & press again. ;)

Very helpful. Do you do restoration or cleaning of gowns? I have my grandmother’s I would like cleaned but I’m so afraid to do it myself. Also, where would I get the mentioned cleaning products if I did decide to do it?

Thank you, your video was very informative. I was wondering if you had any tips on the restoration of discolored sequins and beading on vintage gowns? I've seen some suggestions of people washing and soaking gowns with oxy clean and dawn dish soap, but was hoping that you may have some tips as well?🤔🙂

Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m thinking of washing my beloved grandma’s satin silk wedding dress from the 50s. I’m more concerned about the spot cleaning because there are some large unknown, possibly set-in stains on the dress: how long do you leave the dreft spray on? And how do you rinse it? Do you rub the stain with one at all? Your channel in general is such a blessing!
@BridalSewing

I would gently rub with my fingers & not leave the dreft on for long.

Thank you for making this video! I recently bought a Victorian Silk parasol in an ivory color. The fabric is in very good condition (only very small holes due to wear on the under layer) but there is a lot of tension on the canopy when fully open. Do you have any suggestions for cleaning it? There are a few dark spots and overall it looks dingy. Will the products you mentioned weaken the material further?

No mam. Yellow sequins need to be cut out and replaced if the bride does not want them. 🥰

I am getting married in October, and wanting to use my mother's wedding dress. It is a muslin (I'm thinking, very gauzy and sheer) gunnie sacks by Jessica of San Francisco peasant dress that she bought in the 70's and used in her wedding to my father in 1980. It was originally an off white, and my grandmother and mother used snowy white bleach to whiten it. Now 40 years later it has yellowed again back to its original off white, but also has some tiny brown stains that a friend said was probably from storing in plastic for years. I'm so afraid to wash it, even though it will be by hand. 😬 If you have any tips for this fabric please let me know, I would so appreciate it! ❤️

This technique should be fine. If you are scared at all, at least skip the ironing & only drip dry.

@@BridalSewing Thanks for the amazing information! I have a silk dress that has been in my closet for almost 8 years. It has a wine spill on it that was small, but I recently looked at it ( it has been a while) and there are more stains and spots. Is it from sweat, or aging? Do you think this technique would work on my dress?

Is there a way I can tell the difference between silk and satin? Because I'm fairly certain my mothers wedding dress, is satin and lace. But I can't ask her :( Can I use oxiclean on satin and lace? Because I don't think I can get the product you used, in time

Thank you so much for sharing your technique! You are amazing! Do you mix chalk with acrylic paint or do you buy it like it is? Any suggestions on type or brand?
@BridalSewing
@BridalSewing 6 жыл бұрын
AllSewn Up I buy it in the craft section of Walmart! Super cheap and easy peasy. I'll try to look up the brand. If you can't find the chalk paint, a regular matte acrylic craft paint will work as well. -the cheap Apple Barrel stuff!

Will this method work on raw silk, as well? The dress I'm working with is not dirty but has a couple stains. I know raw silk fibers can be more fragile at times, though the dress is in great condition.

What should I do if the lace is attached right to the silk and I can't separate it? Is the detergent (can't remember what it's called) that you used safe on lace?
