Use your landery machine with "Wool wash mode" or " Silk wash mode", give the Hakama and Kendogi in the laundry net, then you will have a safe and clean washing, with fresh smells full set of Kendo dress.😉 Women know how they could wash their wire bra or corset safely through many of experiences. 🙂 Trust me, you can wash your Hakama with wash machine.🙂🙃🙂 But! You must wash your Kendogi and Hakama alone, not with other colored cloths, otherwise you will get a new look cloths, likely beautiful indigo or dark violet color.🙂

It looks like Andy is practicing his tenouchi by squeezing the kendogi. ;)

Thank you so much, it helps me a lot Could you also make a video how to shorten the Hakama? Most of Asian students are short height compared to foreign students

Is there any solution for a hakama/kendogi that has become firm after washing and drying? I know fabric softeners can't be good for them, but my current jacket especially has become a bit stiff and I don't know what to do.

When you find your kote soaked with sweat three days a week, you have to remove the sweat and kill the bacteria. Soaking in water and having more than one pair is perfect advice. But, even if I avoid soap, alcohol, UV, and ozone- ultimately the the leather dries out, shrinks, and rips at the edges. My question is how to treat the the leather palm after cleaning it? Would you recommend something like mink oil or neatsfoot oil occasionally?

In order to fix the dye, use some vinegar in the last rinse.

For a brand new aizome kendogi. When pre soak it, will it turn the tag/labels of the Gi itself blue??

You don’t have to wash the Kote you can use linear for inside the glove

But how often should you wash them? I just started in Kendo a few months ago and have two synthetic kendo-gi / hakama that I can wash in my washing machine and alternate between the two, but I sweat so much from training I need to wash them after every training session. I don't need to be using a cotton uniform yet but worry that if I use this process to rinse them after every session then the colours will fade quickly. :-(

Yes, you will not need to wash a cotton set after every practice. Instead you can wash them every 3-4 uses. The best thing is to keep the synthetic set for training, and then just use the cotton set for special Keiko, tournaments, or gradings :)

@@TheKendoShow Thank you for the reply. I guess it depends on the amount of training and sweating you do. Some day I hope to be able to justify wearing a cotton Gi. I think I have seen some of the dan people in our club swap between what looks like cotton and synthetic uniforms, so I am sure with practice I can work out the balance between the two. :-)

Oh, no! Plz wash your kendogi every time after your sweaty training. It stinks! Pleaaaaaaase! You should have more than 2 Kendogi for the routine of washing. The manner of Kendo is also that you should not make feel your colleagues upset, cause of bad smell. Cut your toenails, and keep clean your Kendogi before the training. Pleaaaaase! If that makes your Kendo dress outdate, Then BUY A NEW ONE! How many underwaer do you purchase a year? Or T-shirts or Jeans? Kendo is not worthy enough than that?
